I read that four of St. Peter's assistant coaches were volunteers and that minus any coaching salaries their total men's basketball budget was in the neighborhood of $250,000.

And it’s the first time in history that a 15 seed has been in the elite eight so don’t count on doing it again on such a shoestring budget. It’s a wee bit of an outlier so it’s not likely to duplicated any time soon so don’t think that you can be successful paying your bb coach so much below the industry standard. And as said elsewhere he’s likely gone by the end of the week.

Oh no, no, no. Their advancement was totally due to not having FBS football. All this other is just gobbledegook.

Agreed!!!!! Not having football, has allowed St. Peters to invest heavily in basketball. And look at the payback on that heavy investment ;-)

We spend over 2X more on men's basketball than does St. Peters.

Here is the lesson as I see it. We are what we are and if we do things the right way we can have a year like this every once in a while. Last year is a good example and 25 wins this year. The dangerous thinking is when you say “ if we just spend more money, we can repeat this every year.” You can get capable coaches for that kind of money, but you won’t keep them. You won’t keep them anyway, even if you spend more.

I've heard they're already building a new arena. NBA style. Everyone in the MAAC will be jealous of them.

ESPN makes it sound like they have to hold bake sales to pay the bills.

Good story. Stories like this happen once in a while. Just don’t try to be Kentucky.

Until he jumps for a payday. Then you won't like that story a whole lot.

Shaneen Holloway took the Seton Hall job for 6 years at a reported $2.6 M per season.

Nice ten fold increase in his base salary.

Everyone knew it was coming.
But people feel they should have held off on the announcement until
after the team's Jersey City parade Friday.

Rumor is a couple of St. Pete players are heading to the Portal and their fans are really upset at them for jumping ship.

Wonder if Giacamo still thinks this is a noble man with high values to college athletics. Or maybe that is what Seton Hall pays their Dean's?

Boy did you nail this response.

Giacomo starts this thread to argue his tired losing point and it just ends up further hurting his position.

My position is simply don't spend money you don't have. He can and should take the money if he so desires. I'm not for any altruism here. My point is that they will fill his shoes and they will be fine. Many on here think that if we just spend more money for a coach, then we are playing with the big boys. We aren't. They can spend more than we can. Let them. We can field a competitive team most years and have a breakout every now and then. Phil Knight has given Oregon 500M twice. Find someone like that and then chase your dream.
