Bobcat Love's Sense of Shame

Depends how you define "big guys". Defense and rebounding are always keys. Versatility is what you want on offense. Both require athletes.
Give me a guard/wing who is 6-5 to 6-8 that is long and athletic 3 and D? For sure sign me up bc that equates to defense, rebounding, shooting, athleticism and (likely) enough versatility to include ball handling and passing at least serviceable. That's precisely what we need/lack.
You aren't winning much with 3 or 4 guys who fit that mold but are all 6-2 or under.
So yes I agree we need better guards and wings but they need to be big(ger) guys if not "big guys".
I'm with you on this. We got beaten up by every team we played this year with length and athleticism. One of the things that really struck me about Akron this year is that Groce always manages to go out and get length and athleticism. Christian did, too.
DeVaughn Washington was key to our first tournament run -- long, athletic, could protect the rim and guard on the perimeter. Against more athletic teams, he brought defensive versatility. Ivo Baltic was also very athletic and long. Ricardo Johnson, Jon Smith, Walter Offut -- all athletic, versatile defenders who could guard multiple positions.
Christian clearly valued a similar type of guy. He tried to bring in Tariq Owens, Kadeem Green, did bring in N'Dour and Treg Setty. We just didn't have guys like that this year and it ended up hurting us a lot.
St. Peters is a collection of long, defensively versatile athletes, and guards who can shoot.
