More of a general comment. Just hoping that we don't have to play small ball next year. Best teams in the MAC have more physical guards that we just can't match defensively. My exception is if a shorter player can average 15 or more points or dish out 8 assists a game, then their offensive contribution can overcome their defensive liabilities. Other than that, backup is where they should be.
And I hate to even think about it but, boy did we miss McDay this year. I know Coach touted Miles as being our best on ball defender and he did a bang up job considering the situation, but let's face it, there is more to defense than that. And, lest we forget, McDay was 1st team all defense his 2nd year here.
We need bigger guards that can rebound and play D... Not to fret because, that's exactly what we are getting.
GO BOBCATS!
QFT.
There's a reason why I salivate thinking of AJ Brown playing PG at 6'4 (even though 6'1 Sears would be undersized at the 2 - and James at 6'3 would be undersized at the 3).
Exactly why I wish/hope/pray for an upgrade at forward next year assuming BVP doesn't come back.
SF Options are Olumide (6'5 - good size but def raw and needs to improve)
BRod (6'5 - but what are we getting?)
James (6'3 - way undersized but plenty physical enough)
Towns (6'9 - now we're talking, but will he even be here or will he make jump?)
Hadaway (6'8 - I think this might be the long-term answer, problem is we may need him at PF with as thin as we are there)
If BVP returns to the 4, we could slide Hadaway to the 3. A starting 5 of 6'4/6'1/6'8/6'8/6'8 sounds pretty good to me.
If BVP doesn't come back though - we're left with Hadaway, Clayton or Towns at the 4. Again, will Towns even be here? There's no universe I see Clayton being a starting PF, and anything other than a situational stretch 4 off the bench, unless/until he gains about 30 lbs. This is why we may have to slide Hadaway here and go a bit smaller.
Time will tell.
