Good for JC...right where he belongs...in the shadow of a coach who has done more than him at Kent and about to be destroyed by the Bobcats a few times a year. I will never forgive him for breaking Ivo, for somehow losing Jon Smith's trust enough that Smith didn't play in the postseason his senior year, for not playing Travis Wilkins more, for thinking that Bean Willis was worthy of a scholarship, for never caring about Athens and for WASTING A SWEET 16 TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But who's bitter? Not me? :)

Did Boals interview for the Groce opening? can't remember - I know he interviewed when Saul was hired...

He wasted that team by winning the regular season title and losing in the Championship game where our Senior Point Guard and leader put up 3, 2, and 2.

Concur BUT Zips tipped their hand in an earlier game when they had Harney guard DJ and stifled his vision and play. A really smart coach would have been prepared with a strategy to nullify Harney’s defense on DJ. Perhaps bench Ivo and go with three guards inserting Stevie at point and allow Coop and Kellogg to work without the ball.

Zips were forced to do that due to the loss of Alex Abreau, their drug dealing point guard who was arrested during the MAC Tourney.

DJ quit on Christian because of something that happened in the locker room following the semi-final game.

Good for him/them.

The upper tiers of MAC basketball, it's small things that make a big difference. Having someone as experienced as JC on the sideline and in practice is a tremendous positive.

Recruits these days probably care more about facilities, playing time and NIL than playing for a former Power 5 coach, but it surely couldn't hurt.

I don't know if putting in a worse point guard would have helped, especially when they used Marshall to extend the defense out to nearly halfcourt.

Said it as soon as he got the BC job that he'd be back in the MAC in five years. I was off by three years. This is great news for Ohio. Let him make players in another MAC program miserable. One of the most overrated coaches in college basketball history. Ohio just got better today by Kent State hiring this guy.

And Christian lasted 7 years before back in the MAC versus your idol Groce, who lasted just 5. I get it, you hated JC and Saul and worshipped Groce and Boals.

Don't hate anyone, just know when somebody isn't the right fit. Who on this board wouldn't take Boals and Groce over Christian and Saul? Even Stevie Wonder can see that.

The highlight of the Christian Era for me was going to Memphis to watch Ohio's starting 5 turn their backs to JC during a timeout. Thought it was incredibly odd at the time and then it made more sense when you learned how he treated several players. Hopefully, he has the same relationship with Sincere Carry.

I look at this news as an example of a coach who was unsuccessful in a P5 conference and was not able to secure another head coaching job. His reputation precedes him and his style is not a positive for a coach.
Surprised he excepted a step down position. Did he need the job? Was living in Boston without any income too expensive?
I don't see him at Kent long term.

Perhaps this should be considered in the context of the embarrassing video incident that occurred during the MAC Tournament last year. Perhaps the president insisted that someone (an assistant) be sacrificed due to lack of control of the locker room. Therefore, adding Christian is a case of bringing in a hard ass who will crack down on this stuff -- because we know Pinky won't do it.

Many years ago I had a very bad experience with an employer and needed to recharge myself, so I took a job (at a lower position and pay) with a former employer where I was more successful. It was a security blanket for me. Maybe the MAC is JC's security blanket.

I was not the biggest JC fan, but I feel like we have to acknowledge that some positive things did happen in his short stint here. It wasn't all a train wreck. Yes, Jon Smith walking away and Walt Offutt seemingly quitting on the team in the NIT game at Denver really were bad moments. But, he did deliver a regular season co-championship, and who was the last coach to do that here? Has it happened since? I thought Nick Kellogg progressed well as a player in his time under JC. He went from a spot up shooter to a ball handling guard who could drive and score in other ways. JC did bring us Antonio Campbell and Maurice N'Dour (correct me if I'm wrong), two of my favorite Bobcats in recent history.

I'm glad he isn't here anymore, but let's not act like he imploded the program entirely. MAC tourney run teams, historically, do not have staying power. We followed that trend.

Ask yourself this question. If Groce stayed or if Boals replaced Groce, do you think we would have had more staying power and success the next five years after the Sweet 16 run?

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas.

Probably, but it didn't happen, so we'll never know.

Im nobody from nowhere but JC is my least favorite Bobcat coach alltime.

And i was pretty stoked after his hire announcement.

Hes a big ole poop sammich in my book. I take no pleasure if he implodes at Kent, they deserve better....

And, Danny Nee is the greatest hire (post Snyder). No coach took over a program in such distress as he and saved it for all of us to be excited about to this day!
