The bull case for Clayton is that if you look at his freshman year stats on a per 40 minute basis or a per 100 possession basis, they're comparable to what Vander Plas did as a freshman.
The bear case is that he's 40 pounds lighter, an inch shorter, and seemed to lose the coach's confidence as the year went on. His minutes went down at a time when our rotations were very short.
In BVP's freshman year, his minutes ppg average increased over the second half of the season. Clayton's decreased from 11.5 to 8.9.
On Boals' Twitter header photo, the team looks to be arranged in order of height with Granger being the only guy ahead of AJ. My naked eye this year thought he was the tallest on the team, and he could still grow... his feet are enormous. Boals also said in a pregame show he was close to 240. I buy it. Looks like it is mostly lower body.
Boals has also been public about the original plan to redshirt AJ, but he proved to be too good, and multiple here who caught a glimpse of preseason practices echoed that observation.
I think the 6'7" 195 we saw in some places was lazily pulled from a recruiting profile somewhere. That's Jon Smith/Tyquane Goard size.
