In this “new” world of NIL, the 4 year scholarship has gone the way of the one year rent-a-player. I’m waiting for the day a player goes into the locker room at the half, strips off his jersey, announces he’s in the portal and starts the 2nd half for the opposing team.

Nice!
Let me get those UNC-Asheville numbers. Like this add a lot.
I see he’s wearing #20…trying to recall if a player has worn 20, since Trent.
Not sure why everyone is talking about a photoshopped picture. He's not going to wear #20.

It wasn't the transfer portal, but Pele did that back in the 1970s: https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/greatest-socc...

Will Newark's own Jordan Dartis be the last player at Ohio to play his entire collegiate career at Ohio? I brought up that possibility with his high school coach earlier this spring. Or am I missing someone? Obviously, BRod and Miles can be the next.

I know this is (unfortunately) the new world but 8 new dudes coming in the same year? So much could go right or wrong trying to manage that for JB. If anyone can, I have my money on JB.
Sad, but this is going to be college hoops moving forward. I would expect a minimum of 6 new players every year on the Bobcat roster moving forward with portal.

8 new faces, maybe it's a good year to have an open practice/Midnight Madness type event? Let's meet these new players.

Again, I think the free covid year exacerbated the xfer portal madness and I think it will taper off a bit in coming years.

couple of thoughts with this new environment.

pre-season predictions, out the window. good luck predicting the order of finish, w/l record, etc.

and while the constant turnover comes with frustrations, it could be exhilarating for coaches. 8 new faces, no worries. Every year is a clean slate. I believe in my system, I believe in my eye for finding talent, I believe in my staff. Let's roll.

Of course it would help if you have an administration that understands that even the best coaches may have an off year and you have a level of stability.

Players might have to wear name tags at the first couple weeks of practices.

Numbers do not show that. The number of people who have entered are up, but not substantially, and roughly the same number are finding homes, and the same percentage is actually going up, vs moving down. This is a great PP.

Ask a NCAA DII coach in any sport "who will be good in your league next year?" They will shrug and tell you frankly, they have no idea because they do not know who has transferred.

It's been this way in JUCO for a long time. Coaches wondering who's going to show up for practice the beginning of the year, after holiday breaks, etc.

I am assuming you mean a full four year career because Jason Preston would qualify otherwise. But you are correct, Dartis is the most recent player to play a full four years and nowhere else.

Yeah but unless I'm reading it wrong, this is old data from before covid. Right now a ton of kids who already played 2 years are finding themselves with 3 years left and a possible red shirt. There's no way that's not a factor.

Both Ben and Brown are likely to play four at OHIO.

So, is there a schollie left or are we all full?

Shane Dezonie left Vandy to (was supposed to be St. Joe's)

They already didn't pan out. He's not Philly-bound after all.

Schools that originally offered him out of high school (was rated 4-stars)
Cincinnati
Ole Miss
Wake Forest
Kansas State
Missouri
Arizona State
Temple
Rutgers
Arizona
Clemson

Vandy already raided the portal...no schollie for him back on West End ...Stackhouse doesn't eff around. You leave... best of luck... see ya. This is going to be the get of a lifetime for some mid-major with a schollie left.

This is a lot harder to know than in prior years with all of the transfers and possible COVID year rules that we might not be aware of but I count 14 under scholarship assuming McDay is still on the team. If Wilson's extra COVID years counts against the limit also then I count we have one too many so I have to believe that we are full and either McDay is not on the team or I have missed a transfer somewhere or maybe Wilson doesn't count against the total.

Miles Brown
Ben Roderick
Dwight Wilson III
Olumide Adelodun
Lunden McDay
IJ Ezuma
AJ Clayton
Jaylin Hunter
Gabe Wiznitzer
DeVon Baker
Ajay Sheldon
AJ Brown
Aidan Hadaway

If the numbers entering the portal and the numbers of players going up and down and even out of the game are roughly the same, there seems there would be no correlation with Covid.
