On the same day as the site crashed it was announced that Bassett will get a chance to prove himself in the NBA, albeit with a summer league team. Seems to me that looking over the summer league roster it's between himself and Aubrey Coleman from the University of Houston who lit it  up a lot over the season. All of the Hornets games are on NBATV and various webstreams around the internet for those that are interested. Here is his schedule:

Friday, July 9th: Golden State 7 PM ET
Sunday, July 11th: Miami 7 PM
Tuesday, July 13th: Portland 7 PM
Friday, July 16th: Washington 5 PM
Saturday, July 17th: Toronto 3:30 PM

Roster:

Darren Collison G UCLA
Aubrey Coleman G Houston
Armon Bassett G Ohio
Marcus Thornton G LSU
Maurice Ager G Michigan State
Josh Carter F Texas A&M
Carlos Wheeler F Campbellsville
Kyle Hines F UNC-Greensboro
Nikola Dragovic F UCLA
Sean Sonderleiter C Iowa
Brian Cusworth C Harvard
Liam Potter C Sacred Heart

How funny is this picture after what happened with Armon?  Look who just happens to be lurking in the background at LeBron's Skills Camp in Akron.

AB is one lucky guy to hook up with this team for the summer league. He must have had a great deal of help to receive a roster spot. He will have to play great for every game to even have a chance at making a roster. He will also have to show maturity and stay out of trouble while he's in LV as well.
This IS his one chance at making it.
It will be interesting to watch how he does.
I wish him luck.

Too bad he didnt sign with the Heat. If Lebron goes to Miami they could potentially have 8-9 minimum salary open spots on the roster.

And he'd follow in Grunkenmeyer's footsteps of leaving Ohio University early to play for Miami.

If he plays well enough in Summer League, starting tonight, the Heat are going to go after him even though he isn't on their team right now. Just because he signed with the Hornets SL team doesn't mean he's guaranteed to play for them or they have his rights. It's basically just an extended tryout.

NBA.com lists his school as "Unknown" on their roster page:

He'll be on TV tonight at 10 for people with the NBA TV channel.

Weird.  http://www.nba.com/hornets/news/1011_hornets_summer_league.html knows who he is.

Also, you can watch at http://www.dailyfunsports.com/ as well as the prior link, which I think may have gone down.

Much better (actually quite good) quality stream tonight, if anyone else is interested.  Hopefully Armon gets a few minutes.

He got to start because of an injury to Darren Collison. He played only 15 minutes and seemed to do OK. He made his only shot attempt by ball faking and getting a guy to fly past at the college 3-point line. Most of the time that he played, it seemed like it would bring the ball up and pass off to someone else and never get it back. He had two assists, one rebound, one steal and two turnovers.

Hopefully he did wel enough to at least earn some more playing time.

I have watched each of the games thus far and I gotta say, Armon looks overmatched. I am a big Patty Mills fan, but he is making Armon look terrible tonight, and no hustle on D isn't helping his case. I am rooting for you AB, but you are gonna have to step up your effort to get a look in the League. Aubrey Coleman looking really good tonight out of Houston.

I forgot about last night's game or I would have at least watched portions of it.

It was good to know that AB at least got to play, but Collison was out again, so maybe that was the only reason why. It's probably fortunate for Armon that some playing time has opened up that way.

But it does seem that he's not at the level of most of the players and only a handful of these guys are going to end up playing in the NBA anyway. A bad stat I've noticed is his +/1, which I believe was -5 on Sunday and -8 last night. That's a pretty bad number for only 12 minutes, but of course, there are four other guys on the court responsible for that number.

AB has only shot twice in two games. When I saw him play the first game, he seemed uncomfortable. He had two turnovers last night with no assists. He did have three rebounds and was 3 of 4 at the line. Not sure how he got to the line, whether he drew shooting fouls on drives to the hoop or if it was just a hand check or what, but if he was able to draw a couple of fouls on penetration, that would be at least one positive.

Either way, it's apparent he's become the third string point guard on this summer league team as Coleman has been the one to take advantage of Collisons' injury. He's got a lot of impressing to do in the last two games if he is going to get a shot in any team's training camp, and I'm fairly certain it won't be with the Hornets, who of course, already have Chris Paul and Collison as the 1 and 2 point guards. It's looking like Coleman is earning the 3rd point guard spot and at 6-4 is big enough to play SG also.

Why root for this guy now? According to police reports and court records, Bassett stands accused of breaking an Athens bar bouncer's nose for no reason except that he wasn't allowed to skip ahead in line. Presumably, he thought he deserved special treatment because he's "Armon Bassett." He said in an interview last month that he expects to be cleared on the assault charge when all the facts come out. Different strokes for different folks, but until he produces those "facts," I won't be cheering him on, and I'll look askance at those who do. Why? Because except for a few great games, he hasn't represented Ohio University well. He's not an alumnus, he was regarded as a head case for much of his collegiate playing career (including in Athens) and he jerked the Ohio program around (which foolishly accomodated him) when he waffled before bolting for the "professional" ranks. As some have observed, he doesn't even seem to understand that no hustle on D equals no shot for him to make a big-time roster.

There. Isn't it good to have your resident Negative Nellie back? But seriously, give it a bit of thought.

I can understand the hard feelings, but even for all of his failures, he did a lot of good things for Ohio. And even if you don't like him, his last college was Ohio and that's the one that is going to stick with him and he'll represent the rest of his life, good or bad, so I'm hoping for the good.

That's a pretty cool response, Upsan. I certainly don't wish him bad luck but I'd be more interested in a thread about where Snoopy Graham is now or who's doing good things these days on and off the "squared circle."

There could be an NBA lockout in 2012. Armons best shot at making the League might be as a scab.

Tonight's game tips off in about half an hour (8pm), and is available through ESPN3.com if you are on most internet providers except for Time Warner.  Incidentally, if you are on Time Warner and want ESPN3, now would be a good time to call and let them know.  ESPN's agreement with Time Warner (for all the cable networks) ends September 2, and the companies are negotiating now.

Bassett's numbers tonight were pretty awful except for one. The Hornets were +18 when he was on the floor. That's a complete turnaround from his previous two games.

This happened even though he was 1 of 4 for 2 points in 11 minutes. He accumulated no other stats except for 2 turnovers.

One more game left for him to make some kind of impression for some team to give him a shot in preseason, but still not looking too good for that.

Based upon his performance in the couple of games he has participated in it would appear that it's doubtful that he will be in this league next year.

AB did not play in the Hornets' final summer league game, a loss to the Raptors that dropped them to 0-5.

Not many players from the summer league not under contract get invited to preseason. I think Bassett probably will be looking at maybe a D-League contract or going overseas. He averaged 2.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.3 steals and 2.0 turnovers in 13 minutes a game (three games). He was 2 of 6, including 0 of 2 on 3-pointers and was 3 of 4 at the line.
