Is there a league in Uzbekistan? Because Bassett might need to sign a contract - any contract - ASAP to pay for his alleged anger-management habit.

Its good to know that OU athletics has reached the level of people trying to sue because the player has pro future. You can't tell me he would be doing the same over a broken nose from some random drunk idiot.

Unfortunately Bassett is not headed to the NBA and therefore will never settle this case for near that much money.

The only debilitating humiliation Mr.Willis will experience is having his name published in connection with extorting an individual who brought a lot of success and noteriety to OU.

If Bassett did actually hit the kid, I feel bad for him...  But to claim “severe and debilitating humiliation, disgrace, stress, anxiety  and emotional distress” is BS.

I agree...What a joke.  If a punch to the nose messes you up that badly, you've got problems that no amount of money will cure.

First, that is standard legal language.  Essentially, you allege a lot of stuff to start off--if there's any basis for it at all.  Then, as--and if--the case winds thru the legal system, ya get down to what actually can be proven...which may be a lot less than what was initally alleged.

Bassett getting sued?  Doesn't really bother me.  Ya go around punching people in the nose--and that can get you a legal punch in the nose.

Wanna know who Bassett should blame, allegedly?  That guy in the mirror.

You guys don't really mean to say that the guy suing Bassett is out of line, do you? ...Don't you want your bouncers calling the police at the moment and suing instead of physically retaliating?

Heehee ... all who survive the public school system could be worth a million.

OTOH I can see how this type of thing would make a bouncer uncomfortable at work.

I know a dude who worked at The Union who got pretty badly beaten by some meth head who flipped out. Not worth $10 an hour if you ask me. Talk about a hostile work environment.

It's kind of a catch-22 because you could argue that he wouldn't sue for as much if it was a regular student but at the same time he would not have had his name brought up in the press for the same reasons thus he wouldn't have that same added stress. Either way someone with that bright a future shouldn't be so concerned with getting into a bar that he acts that way. Last I checked there's more than just Courtside on Court Street.

Hmm . . . two threads in a row in which I agree with Monroe.  So the question is, which one of us is getting smarter?

I know it is standard legal language...That doesn't make it right.
I know you start negotiations out high in preparation for a compromise...That doesn't make it right.
I know Bassett has no one to blame but himself...That doesn't make it right.

Bottom line, if I got punched in the nose, there is absolutely no way I would try for even $250, let alone $250,000.  He's a bouncer...Pretty clear job description there.  Nobody forced him to do the job.  It happens.  It was one punch.

No question he was done wrong by Bassett, how HE handed the situation is a different discussion here...But the bouncer is just looking for a handout here, plain and simple.  And personally, that annoys the crap out of me.

It's the system of justice which we've set up.  Countering it is the sand that clogs the wheel of justice.

Not to say that I'm not an angry, irrational person but a VERY LARGE part of the problem (economic, politics etc etc) we are having now is anger, irrational conception of what can and should be accomplished, and refusal to recognize facts.  Please don't take that personally, Andrew.  I'm just trying to get people to calm down and to avoid a tiresome debate in which we all yell at each other.

Bottom line:  Bassett is a knucklehead and this issue is not worthy of our time.

Oh I'm not taking anything personally...We Accountants gotta stick together.  I agree Bassett has his share of problems, but that has been discussed at great length elsewhere.  My reaction is purely to this plaintiff and his bogus claims.
