USC and UCLA to the Big Ten.

Doesn't exactly seem like a natural fit.

Conferences that are not geographically-based cause climate change.

This may be our best bet to prevent this idiocy from continuing.

There are plenty of great programs in the midwest to make a conference. This is dumb.

Did B1G even perform an environmental impact analysis before pursuing this expansion?

California politicians need to inquire about the CO2 emissions that will be generated when the Rutgers water polo team has to fly to Los Angeles for away games.

Mike Tyson would summarize this in one word.

I'm sure the baseball/softball teams will enjoy coast to coast flights every other weekend.

I've heard a few reports (on podcasts) that this is most likely Football/Basketball only

Did anybody break the news to Grand Canyon and Dixie State of Utah that they won't be candidates to join the new/unimproved Pac 12? Can't Jerry Colangelo just buy the conference and make them include his hobby/toy, Grand Canyon?

According to the papers out here, the B1G is saying all sports will transfer over to the conference.

Dolla dolla bills, ya'll.

What are we going to end up with when the dust settles? The Great Northern Conference, The Great Southern Conference, and "everybody else?"

Transportation will ONLY be environmentally- friendly--electronic/solar---vehicles.

Advancement of green energy is the main reason the Big Ten is making such a geographically brainless decision.

Don't forget the huge rubber bands for the planes.
Of course they'll all have to be "props" not jets.

Eventually there will two or three super conferences that are going to conspire to cut out the St. Peters and Loyola Chicagos of college sports landscape for rea$on$. I hope the college basketball selection committee puts a cap on how many at large bids can come from one conference. "Oh neat, you created a 20 team conference with the intent to ruin the sport for everyone. Wonderful, you get only five bids. Enjoy the NIT, douchebags."

I'd love to watch Jay Bilas' head explode if/when that happened.

Obviously money is the main driver here but I would be curious to understand the "ROI" when you factor in the new travel requirements.

For what it's worth, I don't think the major conferences are naive enough to misunderstand the NCAA Tournament's appeal as an event. They'll make sure to preserve the underdog component -- it's a huge money maker, and they know it.

What they're optimizing for is football revenue and regular season basketball TV revenue. And it's a wise business choice. Live TV is a dying medium and ad dollars are being poured into sports. If you're the Big 10 and you can add the second largest media market into your negotiations, you should.

Eventually, the Big Ten type conferences will be for football/basketball only. Olympic sports will be regional based. I could see Ohio State and West Virginia and Maybe MSU and Michigan being in the same conference as us for baseball, softball, and volleyball.

I'm fine with B1G adding Notre Dame. At least that fits the traditional geography.

I don't think UND is fine with it, nor I would guess are most of their 76 million subway alumni. Obviously, that's an exaggerated figure, but many Notre Dame fans truly believe that every American Roman Catholic is a fan at some level.

If Big Ten takes Virginia, UNC, Notre Dame, and Duke while SEC takes FSU, Georgia Tech, Miami-Fl and Clemson. That makes ACC left with BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Va Tech, NC State, Wake Forest and Louisville. ACC becomes a lot more northeast of a league. Do they restock south again with Memphis, USF, UAB, ECU, Tulane, Charlotte, Temple, UConn and UMass for 16. A major hit for AAC yet again. MAC might survive with all 12 yet again as what is left of AAC would be too far west and south. If ACC took Buffalo over UMass that would be the only concern for the MAC.

Would the SEC take Georgia Tech? They've already got a nerd school (one that actually tries at sports, unlike the Yellow Jackets), and they already dominate Atlanta. (Plus, one of the leading SEC programs hates them with a passion)

I think that is more last century. UND no longer holds a magical allure with todays high school athletes. perhaps with select catholic school athletes but not with others. and their NBC games are no longer unique as the consolidation. continues and everyone gets on TV every week.
