This doesn’t mean anything in terms of his potential to be a great player, but I thought it interesting that my youngest daughter’s father-in-law, who lives in the Louisville area and is a UL grad who follows the basketball team closely said he really didn’t have any idea how good a player Gabe was. He acted like he couldn’t even remember when Gabe got into a game. Nonetheless, I’m high on this guy. I think Boals will be able to make the most of his talents. I don’t really think he’ll be project. He doesn’t appear to be big man who is a clumsy oaf, but a big man with a lot of talent to be developed.

I have no idea what his potential is, but even in high school he wasn’t a big scorer. So I’m not expecting much in that area. I do think/hope he will be the rebounder and rim protector we all covet.

Yes, I told Ron, my daughter’s father-in-law, exactly that. I hope he’d be the rim protector we need. Great minds think alike! ;-)

Steven Adams averaged 7ppg this season starting on an NBA team that had the 2nd best record in the league. Because rebounding and defense is what he does.

If Gabe can shoot FT's decent, that will be an advantage.

Happy to see Big Gabe here. Got to follow him at Hargrave on that team that included KD Johnson (auburn), Sears (Ohio/Alabama) and a number of other shooters. Only one ball so analytics guys will downplay his numbers. There were players on that particular squad. With their high scoring, full court pressing defense turns to offense scheme, Gabe was often on the back end of the press while the ball was already going in the hole on the other end... Personally, I would have liked to see him stay for the Post Grad year as he was still developing but P5 was calling.

I like the addition and feel like he will compete well right off the bat. Saw a lot of comp at Hargrave as they played their schedule and Hall of Fame Tourney in Springfield. He then had to sit with injury and then try to get back in the mix with the coaching shake up at Louisville. Around the rim he is pretty crafty and finishes in a hurry. Keeps the ball up and has some decent footwork. Probably not going to stretch the floor a lot but really plays in the screen roll scheme well as he is a solid and well executed screener and gets the smaller defender on his hip and keeps him there.

I am excited to see him at this level. MAC is seeing some skilled players inside so Gabe is a welcome addition. Welcome to Athens Big Fella. Bringing your game to the Convo and your academics to Ohio. It's a win.

There are a lot of phony analytics guys out there. The real ones get it.

There is a reason Daryl Morey started PJ Tucker at center for so long and it wasn't for his scoring ability!

OT: I looked at his tweet and noticed #RollBobbies. Clicked on it and was disturbed to see its widespread use. I thought the "Bobbies" thing had died. It certainly needs to. And you kids get off my lawn.

QFT.

What are we the cuddly Bobkitties? Those are "Bobbies". It's like a bad dig from a mid-major student section that we imposed on ourselves.

Now go walk up hill, both ways, in 2 feet of snow!

In another thread that couldn't find, BLSS and I had an exchange about this guy. After watching him in the exhibition against Capital, I'm going to concede that BLSS was completely correct. This guy is a project. He appears weak and does not have good hands. Boals maybe be able to develop him, but as of now he no more than a guy to spell DWIII for a few minutes.

I wasn’t there, so I can’t comment. He played 17 against UC and 20 last night it looks like. I think even 10-12 minutes from Gabe on a nightly basis is a positive. Polished 6’11 players don’t typically land at the mid-major level, so I don’t think it’s surprising he needs some work.

He seemed rusty vs Belmont last night. Possibly from lack of playing time at U of L. No, he's not Rudy Gobert or Karl-Anthony Towns but could improve with time. He's a bit better than some past tall guys I won't name.

I've seen guards on the womens team who more aggressive in the paint.

He didn't look like a rotational player whatsoever.

He fumbled multiple rebounds, didn't try for most, got burnt on defense nearly every play, he can't set screens, he ran into Baker twice on a pick-roll.

Some of the worst tape I've ever seen. I was excited for him, but YIKES. He should be a pick and pop nightmare for teams, but wow...

Not quite ready to write him off, but this shouldn't be surprising to anybody.

The gap between OU and a bad ACC team just isn't so substantial that the 11th guy on an ACC team is a difference maker in the MAC.
