overrated players dont score 22/15 on west virginia, 20/6 on cole aldrich of kansas last year, 21/11 on michigan state last year, 16/16 on seattle who had a drafted center last year, 28/8 against pitt in the first found of the ncaa tournament and average over a double double all year.

If you are getting angry at the "leaders" of the O-zone...your energies are mis-directed.

All the "leaders" I've come in contact with are great young kids who will be successes in life.

When I stood up last night to quiet the "fat a*s" chant, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Norris, Tricia, Dragon, and the entire mid-court to O'bleness baseline were not involved. It truly was just a few rotten apples where the band usually sits that stirred up the problems.

To me, the only thing this comes down to is how you choose to handle yourself in public. If you think it's right to scream those things as part of a faceless throng of people, then that's a problem. It shouldn't take your peers to discourage  you from doing it.

I definitely work the refs as much as the next guy, but it's always about rules...rules....and rules. Calling someone a dingbat over and over again really isn't funny, nor is it intelligent.

Bottom line, it's about exercising self control and direction. I don't think you can hold Norris, Dragon, or anyone else responsible for policing the behavior of these other kids. These other kids should flat out know better.

Think Mr. Baltic and his lady friend enjoyed the "USA" chants last night? Probably one of the nicest guys you'll meet.

Good job.

Also, Benson is not overrated. The NBA doesn't grade on single games. They grade on paper and on body of work. You'll see him playing 82 next year.

Leaders, how hard is it to do a little research on the opponent and come up with some creative cheers for each game? Why can't these be put in a Word document, printed, copied and distributed at the student gate each game? I am sure it could be emailed to each OZone member also. I love the OZone. I really do. The student section at Ohio is the best in the MAC. I hope the OZone is just like the team and getting ready to gain momentum for a solid MAC run again.
Despite being out for the game after a wrist/hand fracture/spain (obtained either while saving a cat from a burning tree, knocking out a courtside bouncer, or slipping on some leafs), I DID do this, just like O Zone 'leaders' have done for as long as I can remember. With the help of the O Zone president and anyone else willing to contribute dirt, I'll continue to do this for the rest of this season, and probably next season.

Sometimes we get quality info, other times not so much... Either way, people can chose whether or not they use the info in chants.. I'm not about to tell people what they should or shouldnt chant either. I've still got another election left to win, heh..

In all seriousness, I started going to Cleveland Browns games when I was 9 or 10, my brother was 4 or 5. We heard things a lot worse then anything I've ever heard at an Ohio hoops game, and my parents made it perfectly clear what we would and wouldnt be repeating. I'd prefer the O Zone not cross the line to much, but I'll remind people on this board they wanted to kick us out of BSU for saying "sucks" and a former president was assaulted at Miami for reasons beyond me. Keep that in mind when asking me to tell the O Zone how we should act based on what a couple people have to say about it.

All that said, there  will be a note on the next Bulletin reminding O Zoners to use their best judgement.

That's all I wanted to hear. Thanks. Way to man up. I mean it.

Yeah, I agree we crossed the line big time. If I'm coach Groce, I'm calling a timeout and walking over to the Ozone and ending that crap right away.

If we need the head coach to start using timeouts to police the Ozone, we're in gigantic trouble. He needs those timeouts to coach the basketball team. Gotta have the student leaders who are sitting in that section step it up.

I understand the feedback by the Ozoners who have responded and said that they really can't do anything to stop the chants of idiots. Really, that makes total sense. With no accountability (from the idiots) you're in a tough position to try to get them to follow an example.

Hope my comment wasn't taken as a swipe at Anorris, Tricia, or Dragon. All I'm saying is if you're hoping the coach will take a TO to shutup a bunch of idiots, you might want to look at yourself and think about what you can do. If 50 more Love's (preferably ones in the student section) stand up and say "no, no, no" you're now getting somewhere.

To Optimist I'd say there's a difference between using profanities and chanting an offensive name at an opposing player or coach. I understand not wanting to police what people can or can't say, but you've gotta draw a line and set an example there.

Tips like "Not all of our players are originally from the USA, chanting USA at opposing foreign born players lacks judgment," would probably be useful.

I just want Groce to get on the microphone and yell "You don't live in Cleveland!" Sam Wyche style.

I forgot about that one.  It was poor form, indeed, but died pretty quickly.   Would have been a nice one to pull out when KVK was here.

Chanting "bullshit" in unison went out with parachute pants.

Somehow I really doubt that.  I just heard it from the Gonzaga student section as well as several other teams student section throughout the day.  I don't necessarily condone it, but have been known to join in if irritated enough.

BTW, I wasn't there yesterday or at the Delaware game, so this is all I will comment on.

I said it was out of style, not out of use.  I saw a guy with a mullett and a cross earring in his left year yesterday at Walmart.  Just because I saw it this week doesn't make it fashionable.

Two comments:

1. Maybe I was oblivious to it all, but I didn't think the Ozone was any more or less obnoxious than usual.  Much of what they do I attribute to adolescent behavior and let it go at that.  I always, however, enjoy their enthusiasm and commitment to Ohio hoops.  I guess my ears have just become numb to their slings and arrows of outrageous smack talk.

2.  I think that this is a game we would win if it had come down the schedule a little farther.  We are still working on getting the younger players to understand the system and to mesh with the returning veterans.  This team will be very good once they jell and start playing like they are capable of.

Agree that we have to have some standards of class in the stands, both in the Old Zone and Ozone.  Some of the chants violate common sense.

The chants around me are not vulgar, but they likely fall into that "violate common sense" part. I'm a little embarrassed to bring friends to listen to HELP! and the hoarse random insult guy. The sad thing is these bozos are just as close to Dr McDavis & wife/guests as I am. I often wonder what they're thinking when these two are just yelling to hear themselves talk.

Maybe the "HELP!" call is a thinly veiled plea for intervention in their own lives...

Thank you OZone for being college students last night.  My two young boys are just old enough to start asking why the students do stupid things in general while in college.  It made for a nice conversation on the drive home, where I explained that college kids are old enough to make thier own decitions and that useing blanket statements like 'college kids' is dangerous as not all students there were chanting said phrases.  It was especially nice for the neighbor kid we brought to his first ever basketball game of any level, which I'm only adding here to add to my biteing sarcasm.  Chanting "bullshit" in unison is a common occurace at just about every college and pro basketball and football game across this great nation of ours since saying words like 'shit, ass, and even bitch' are common place on TV now, but rest assured, I'm posting on FCCAttack right now as well.  I'm sure the three 5 year olds were tramatized for life as they were coming to halfcourt for the dance-off.

Leaders, how hard is it to get a bunch of possibly semi-drunk peers your own age, with varrying degrees of respect for the title of 'Ozone President,' to follow your lead?  Why can't I realize that this exact same "OMG The OZone chanted "bullshit" thread happens every year, almost like an anual right of passage?  I'm sure it could be emailed to each OZone member also.  I love the OZone.  I really do.  The student section at Ohio is the best in the MAC.  I hope can remember what it's like to be 20 in time for a solid MAC run again.

Fix'd

Step 1:  Go to www.collegehumor.com
Step 2:  Realize that a decent percentage of any group of college students view and find that site hillarious
Step 3:  Prepare yourself, and children, accordingly.
Step 4:  Profit
