I miss the old Front Room when it was a bar and not a coffee shop.

I agree with Love's assessment of the game.  I love the fact that I can watch all the home games on the net.

I'm highly looking forward to what it is becoming, having seen the plans.

Year ago I'm sure there were folks sorry to see basketball games shift to the Convocation Center.  That said, it is sad to hear uptown has lost its "town" feel.

Miss the Old Baker Center, not me. I think the new one is lavish overkill, as does Dr.Vedder, but that's fodder for another thread I think. Back to the point, DJ, that is. Agree with Love, what we getting  to witness is a Picasso being painted before our eyes. Enjoy!
-- Was really impressed with Baltic. Huge improvement from the freshman to sophomore year so far.
-- The freshmen were well freshman, it's to be expected. Certainly  talent there, and glad to see Groce putting them in the line of fire early on. It will be fun to watch them develop as it was with DJ, Keely, Ivo last year.
-- Thought Ivo and Reggie were far more aggressive against Delaware than they were against Walsh the week before. That's a good sign.
-- The crowd, good, not overwhelming in numbers, but very vocal and into the game. Considering it was a November afternoon that weather wise was closer to early September, I really have no complaints with the student turn-out. That said, the students who don't attend have no idea what they are missing. Watching DJ is worth the price of admission alone!

I loved the old Baker Center. It was more for what went on there than how it looked. Although, it had an odd charm to it when I was a student in the late 70s/early 80s. I had an office in Room 432 my junior and senior years, and, surely spent more time in that building than anywhere else, except a couple academic buildings.

I've got dozens of stories having to do with the Frontier Room, concerts, Student Senate and more. And, I've stayed in touch with a lot of folks who shared the  Baker Center experience. Good times.

On the other hand....Grover Center & the old natatorium vs. Ping and the newer nat -- no contest.

The crowd was listed as 5100. Really? You would need the whole lower bowl to be filled with some spillover in the upper tier to get that many.

The new Baker is far superior, I grant you. I'll just miss the old one and the memories. It looks like they haven't kept it up for a long time, as the new one was in the works. What is going in there after they renovate? They should make it into a hotel and have students run and manage it. I'd love to stay right on campus when I visit.

Upstairs was actually a great place to study - very quiet and you could always find an empty conference room to spread out and work.  And you were right uptown when done.

It is being connected to RTV and the combined building will house virtually the entire College of Communication.  Should allow for much freer flow between J-School, Media Arts (TCOM), and Viscom, which can only be a good thing.  Will be really helpful to consolidate those spaces for a lot of people in those programs.  Can't wait to visit in five years and reminisce about how things used to be back when I was here!

If you're interested, I saw the floorplans up in the 4th floor conference room in RTV a few weeks ago.  If they're still around, I could grab some snaps if anyone would like to see.

EDIT: Old article about the concept and funding -- last I heard they'd secured all the funds to complete the project.  http://www.ohio.edu/outlook/07-08/May/523.cfm

There was nothing like sitting on the wall of the Frontier Room drinking beer on a spring afternoon. (when you were supposed to be in class...)

If I had a class in the RTV building that I could not afford to miss.  I would cut through the alley to avoid the Front Room and subsequent temptation to blow off class.

Thanks Doc for reminding me. Had bowling class winter quarter, senior year. This was the same quarter in which I sprained my ankle, limiting me to keeping score with a  during class time. Needless to say, I too miss Baker Center.

Sprained your ankle bowling - you're such an athlete.  Fred would have played through it.

Nah, sprained my ankle playing basketball. Injury prevented me from bowling in bowling class.
