5.7 turnovers per game. not good, not good. He's forcing a lot right now.

He's also learning how to deal with being the #1 target for every defense.  He's not getting a free moment out there.

Yup.  And, tonight at least, he wasn't getting much help from anyone.

OK, so let's ignore the areas that need improvement and just focus on what they are good at.

Facts - just the facts. DJ has looked bad on several inbound plays this year - and most of them were right after a time out - coach has to take some responsibility there. Couple risky passes, but I'll take the overall mix...............

Yea, but these stats go hand in hand. Coaches look at assist to turnover ratio and despite his high assist numbers, he has one of the lower ASST/TO ratios.

His steals can make up for some of those TOs, but until he learns when to force and when not to force it, some of those TOs will cost them a game.

I'm not hating on him at all, I just feel like he can be an even better player just by fixing the TOs and shot selection problem. And that makes the whole team better since he runs the team.

If by lower you mean best then yeah he's got one of the lower A/TO ratios. DJ is currently 8th in that category in the MAC at 1.85.  That would have been good enough for 5th in conference last year.  Obviously we would like to see him cut down on some of the turnovers but I think some of that is working with a bunch of new players. Again he needs to cut down on the turnovers but DJ has been everything we've asked for an more so far this year.

I think maybe you are confused, I'm not sure. The idea is to have a high A/TO ratio. Right now DJ is tied for 497th in the country in this category.

Some of you guys ought to be over at Ping in the off-season helping DJ to read defenses and see the floor better.  Some excellent analysis here, lets move it off the message board and move it to real life and go help the young man.

OUV obviously knows you want a higher assist to TO ratio...He was being sarcastic in pointing out that his ratio is not at all bad and it is indeed 8th best in the conference.  It may be 500th in the country for now, but about 3 games into the year there is going to be a lot of high numbers scattered across the country with the small sample size.

I realize that its a very small sample size that will likely increase. But 8th in the MAC is not good enough for someone who is supposed to be the best point guard in the MAC.

If he keeps his assist number close to where they are now though, I'll be very happy.

1.85 isn't a bad A/TO ratio no matter how you try to paint it. It's not great but it's not bad.  If you want to say he's turning the ball over too much then we might be able to agree but a 1.85 A/TO is good.

Some of the same people who think DJ turns it over too much are the ones who thought Zach Kiekow was a stud.

Applauding. The last thing we ever have to worry about is DJ Cooper.

RSBob...I have only seen one game on TV this season but if memory serves me correctly, we had tons of trouble getting the ball inbounds last year.  I would have figured they would have come up with something new this year.  Have they?
