If you aren't on channelsurfing...get on it....DJ is absolutely taking over this game. Special 1st half performance thus far.

I can't believe that shot was what Groce drew up in the huddle right before the half.

Are you sure it wasn't to try and get 2 for 1 in possessions to end the half?

The Good:

Dj, and Nick Kellogg

The Bad:
Lack of any rebounding and the play of the Bigs

I know foul trouble was the reason, but was glad to see a lot of folks get into this one.

DJ has become a one-man band and is "carrying" this team on his back. Kellogg's hit some nice 3's  but we are absolutely getting "punked" on the boards, Ill State is getting 2 and 3 shots per possession. Our "big" 3 - DeVaughn-Keely-Ivo really, really, really need to step it up.

I'm assuming Tommy is coming off the bench until he gets his legs back from the injury.  While he is off to a rough start, he is still better than any other option and we all know his shot will come around.

They mentioned Tommy has the flu - so I think that's the reason.

Cooper's line right now:

27 pts
4 Boards
8 Assists
6 Steals
2 Blocks

This is absolutely ridiculous. Him and Nick have put this team on their back. I love it.

FINISH THIS!

Man, that was fun to watch. And great to see DJ do so well in front of 'home' crowd as well!

Big, big, gutsy win for the Bobcats.  Cooper and Kellogg were fantastic.  I'm not sure how we survived most of the 2nd half with all three primary bigs having four fouls, but I'll take it.  Some nice work on the boards by Sayles as well, although Coop was the star of the show overall.

Good win against a valley team on the road.  Cooper was great, Kellogg hit some big shots, but bigs continue to be just terrible.  Any win against a Valley school is a good one.

You beat me to it, Flomo. Great effort from Sayles.

Gutty, gritty win with Asown doing some dirty work.  Coop stellar and Nick hitting a career high.  Big block by Reggie in the last minute that was a key element.
Whew!

I've been waiting for Ohio's inside player to provide inside help on defense all year and perhaps the biggest defensive stop of the night was Keely sliding over late in the game for a rare blocked shot to give Ohio possession with the lead.

DJ Cooper showed tonite why he is in the run for MAC POY.  Nick Kellogg showed he will be in the run for MAC FOY.

The next step is getting more scoring balance.  DJ & Nick hitting on all cyclinders tonight.  Combined accounted for 48 of OHIO's 67 points.  Now we got to get some other guys rolling as the rest of the roster combined for only 19 points..

*I think Devaughn will have a breakout game real soon. He's working hard, but is missing chip shots and getting in foul trouble.  I think he's on the cusp if we can keep him on the floor 30 minutes per night until he breaks out of it..
*Got to get Tommy involved in the offense again.  Not getting the looks he's got in years past.
*TJ is the next guy after Devo & Tommy to get on the scoring bandwagon.  Looks like his confidence is growing game-by-game and I expect he's going to be hitting some big shots before the end of the season.  I'm staying on his bandwagon until he proves me wrong, but I think we need this guy to get minutes
*Finally, I think Ivo can pitch in a few as well.  Laid a goose egg tonight, but he's shown signs.

Bottom line, DJ has really increased his scoring production this year and Nick has been the first pleasant surprise from the newcomers.  Now we have to get the rest of the gang going as we'll take tonight Win, but can't count on these two guys carrying 70% of the scoring load all season.

Love what I'm seeing from Cooper, what a game by him. Just tremendous.

Maybe an answer to our front court troubles when Tommy starts picking his minutes back up is getting Sayles some time at the 4. Seems like he's got a big enough body to handle that except against some of the bigger front lines in the league.Really liked what he brought from a rebounding standpoint tonight. Not a guy you're really going to look to share much of the scoring load, but he doesn't seem to make very many dumb mistakes when he's on the floor and is a plus on the glass. That's important.

A lot of players can score. The definiton of a true star is a player who makes everyone around him better. That's what D.J. does and that's what makes him special.

DJ, is a great talent, but it concerns me others are not stepping up to shoulder the scoring load.  Very tough when we get to league play where they scout and spend weeks in the office preparing and watching multiple film and tapes for your PG to be your leading everything.  Going to make things tougher.  But major props to him being able to put this team on his shoulders many nights in this young season.

I sure hope that wasn't the idea because even if we do get two shots off they are both going to be low percentage chances if DJ's shot is what we wanted. There were only a 4 second differential between the shot clock and the game clock and you would have to expect Illinois State to milk as much clock as possible.

As for the rest of the game, DJ was spectacular.  The difference in the game was DJ vs Austin Hill.  That made up for our complete inability to control them inside.

I also thought that we are seeing the emergence of Nick Kellogg as our second reliable scoring threat.  I also thought Hall and Johnson showed they belong.  Both have good looking shots and will develop into very good players over time.

The numbers don't show it but I thought Washington had a good game.  We need to get Tommy healthy because we are different team offensively when he's not out there.  With DJ's ability to drive it is tough for a defense to defend both Tommy and Kellogg. If you do then DJ is going to score a ton of points.

All in all a huge win and an encouraging performance but some very real questions still existing.

I totally agree. Even though he struggled to score he came up with three steals, including two big ones that lead to transition points. He also drew a big charge call late in the game.
