Like all your mom's from the country said - if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all...so here is your "nothing but positives" edition of the LOVE's game recap from yesterday:
1. Dustin Ford - Next to DJ Cooper, he may be the MVP of the team for me. My disdain for his brother is widely known, but many of you don't know the respect I have for Dustin's coaching acumen. He saw Kane carrying the ball on multiple occasions and got the ref to call it. He's coaching hard in-game. He demanded Devaughn dunk one of the bunnies that he missed (only to be rewarded with a "f*ck you" from Devaughn - stay classy). He's seeing all the angles in-game and trying to help get the adjustments made. I can just tell he's working hard. Question will be whether he's polished enough to put himself in position for a HC job down the road. I hope so, as I think he can flat-out Coach given the chance.
2. The Temperature in the Convo - Sensational. Really good job by the HVAC team yesterday. They don't get enough credit, so in this age of only discussing the positives - my hats off to the HVAC team. With snow falling outside and a temperature vascillating from 37 to 29 degrees, the 70ish degrees in the convo was perfectly inviting. Did I mention the air quality? Not a hint of asbestos in the air and probably limited radon as well. Things are superb in that department.
3. My seat - the effort needed to lower the bottom half from the top half was perfectly optimal. The screws had been put in just right and it required just the perfect amount of force to get it into the 90 degree angle I required for seating. The seat was clean, smooth, and an amicable fit for my frame. Good old 105 E3 and E4..workhorses that come to the job every day without complaint without credit. Well good friends - here is your credit.
4. My friend Tunji's dance during introductions - You can have the Dougie, I'll take the Tunji. Lots of verbal interaction. Good eye contact. Well choreographed. Even Cheryl Burke and Max Chemermemerosky sent me DM's on twitter saying that they were impressed. No better way to kick off the game in my opinion.
5. We didn't lose by 57 - While many of you are in your negative state of mind after yesterday's game, I'm feeding off the positives. Not losing by 57 is exhilerating....but when it's only 8? Heavenly.
6. Walt Offutt or Jon Smith's discussion with the officials - In fairness, I couldn't see who it was that said something to the nice referee to get his attention, but one of them was reprimanded for their conduct outside the watchful eye of Mr. Groce. Some of you might say they need to hold their tongue and let Mr. Groce work the referees. I say they were being team players, even in street clothes. If 100% of our fans, coaches, and players are working the refs on EVERY...SINGLE...PLAY - why shouldn't the kids in street clothes get their crack? 80% of the calls yesterday were excellent. 20% not so much, so why shouldn't our transfers get to participate?
7. Give it up for the Fairfield Union HS Band. As Mrs. LOVE said, "if I close my eyes, it sounds just like the 110" - Well said Mrs. LOVE. Well said.
8. Popcorn in the Rohr Room - As I type this, AMC theatres is looking into a patent infringement suit. There's some serious dollars to be lost in the cinematic industry if this keeps up. Very few blank kernels. Warm. Seasoned to perfection. Not to greasy. It may just be a simple, run of the mill
funtime machine, but dammit when you execute the pop like these people are doing in the Rohr Room...you deserve some kind of popcorn Heisman trophy.
9. The Huntington population's weight loss - Here's to you Mr. Jamie Oliver, you Naked Chef of a bastard. You got those Huntington people in tip top shape. Sure they like their pizza and chocolate milk a little more than the next guy, but your ability to whip their local politicians and DJ's into shape for your weight loss initiative was terrific. Never was it more on display yesterday in the Convo where only 3 out of 4 men had plumbers crack showing and guts hanging out of control. Five years ago, that was 4 out of 4 men. Plus, I'm guessing Taco Johns, McDonalds, and Wendy's had banner days yesterday....all positives.
Lots of positives to build off yesterday. Lots of positives. I'm personally optimistic and please don't bother me with your negative feedback. I'm on a cloud that you don't have access to right now, Mr. Debbie Downer.
