Apparently Marshall held its own today in Louisville.  I hope Ohio shows up and can give this Gallia County Bobcat fan a little bragging material.  Last years basketball game and the past two football games have been painful.  Last year Ohio had no answer for Whiteside.  Thank goodness he is gone.

I saw a Marshall fan on here the other day asking about tickets.  Maybe they can shed some light on how the team looks this year?

Marshall likes to get out and run if possible; since this is a home game, that could turn out to be a good thing for Ohio, since we have guys who can get out in transition.  But Marshall has a lot of good players and athletes.  It'll be a tough game.

One big key will be how our bigs match up with their bigs.  I have a feeling our guards and wings will be able to match up pretty well.

Marshall fan here...

If we shoot over 75% from the FT line, we WILL win.

Otherwise it will be a close game... we might even lose.

Pretty bold statement considering Marshall lost to Chattanooga and only beat a 1-5 Jackson State by six.

It's not a basketball game.

It's not an athletic contest.

It's a chance for the love to go manic depressive and/or manic exhilarated,  To jump off a bridge.  Or to jump back up on one.

Our season so far has gone something like this:

W
L
Oh yes!
NO NO NO
W
I GNU WE'D BE THIS GOOD.
THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUt!
the sky is falling.  and so are most trees.
OH YEAH YES YES YES! OH! OH!

We shot 46% from the FT line against Chattanooga and 56% against Jackson State.

We're progressively getting better as the year goes, but our best FT shooter and ball handler is out till January so the charity stripe will play a big part in this game.

I stand by my claim... we shoot AT LEAST 75% from the line and we win this game... otherwise, it might be too close for comfort.

I would be shocked if Marshall were favored by 6+ points.  I think OU will be a 2-3 point favorite, although I could see it a pick em or Marshall a 1-2 point favorite at most.

Offensive rebounding could be a key...we haven't done a good job of defensive rebounding so far this season...some of our opponents have succeeded against us on their offensive glass (see Dragon's analysis).

Marshall has gone off the charts in offensive rebounding vs. Louisville and then last night vs. a good FIU team.

If we let them get 20 offensive rebounds, it won't bode well for our chances...(a better stat would be percentage of opportunities, right Dragon?)

Does Marshall still travel with a makeup artist for their coaching staff?

Yes.

The Marshall poster is assuming they get enough chances at the line for 75% to make a significant impact.

Not just the fact of adding more points to the board, but when our team misses free throws... our flow is just so out of wack, our players get frustrated and they start making mistakes.

If they can get it together from the stripe, they will play very well.

If the student's show up in force (we'll have to see; students are home on winter break) they may have some part of this.

I can't wait for this game.  Went down to the Marshall/OU football game this season and had a pretty good time other than the final play.  Hopefully, the atmosphere at the basketball game can match the one at the football game. The Santa Clara game got us back on the right track for our players' confidence.  A win over a tough Marshall would go a long way for our boys early in the season.

I didn't even know there were Ohio fans there... the visitor section was BARE.

We should bring a pretty good crowd ourselves... I'd say around 100 or so.

You're telling us their games revolve around their free throw shooting?

Might be because we blended in with the rest of the green (no 110, no mascot, not even the cheerleaders were allowed to suit up).

I hope you guys do bring a good number; always fun to have friendly banter with fans from other schools during the games.

Someone pointed out about our loss to Chat and our close game with Jackson St.

One of the main reason's we lost those games is because of free throw shooting... It's a lot more important than a lot of players these days seem to care to work on... It's all about 3 pointers and dunks.

A lot of Ohio fans were blended in around the stadium at Marshall for the football game, fedale.  My wife and I, for example, were not in the visitor's section.

I hope students come back for this one. With winter break bar deals, it could be a lively crowd. And while I haven't seen his antics personally, my Marshall buddies' description of their new coach leads me to believe he is a shorter, fatter, angrier version of Charlie Coles. Basically, perfect OZone fodder.

I've rounded up about 15 or so of my friends, we'll all be there in the Ozone.  Normally we're in the band, so hopefully we can add some oomph for tomorrow.  While it may not be a sizable student crowd, I suspect it will be lively, to say the least
