http://www.draftexpress.com/rankings/NCAA-Sophomores/

This is my number one source for accurate and fair nba draft analysis -- I have no idea when this list was last updated though I doubt if there is a whole lot of emphasis on up to the minute assessments of everyone on this list.

I do, however agree that Zeke has more pro potential at this stage in both of their careers...reality will show if Zeke starts to fulfill his promise.  No question however that D.J has had a far better college career (the preceding sentence is undoubtedly a front runner for the most obvious statement on this site today)

Being the 54th best sophomore, when a ton of the top players in his class left last year, is "respect?" Basically, your number one source for NBA draft coverage is saying he would be a late 2nd rounder...if the NBA draft only consisted of player from his grade in the United States. That's hardly the respect people on this board was giving him, which was "boy I hope he stays around all four years."

yea, i agree with the last comment. Being ranked as the 54th best sophomore isn't that much respect for what he has done and how we regard him.

Especially when you have a player like Zeke Marshall (tons of potential) who hasn't done much ahead of him.

Well its a slight improvement I guess.  He was considered the 39th best PG in the 2010 recruiting class.  I know a few guys left after one year that played the position (Bledoe, Wall, etc) but a 27 slot jump in those rankings is pretty good.  Should he be higher than a lot of players on that list based on how he has played?  Probably.  But unless I am mistaken, the list is projecting how they players project in the NBA.  Often times those lists factor height and school pedigree (rightfully or wrongfully) and not so much what the player has done in their college career.

Given that the people who work for that website and look at hundreds of prospects and their world doesn't revolve around the Athens, Ohio campus....yes that is definitely respect.

You must have completely overlooked the part of my post that says the list is hardly something that is going to be updated on a weekly basis as will be the mock nba draft listing which is where the website earns their credibility.

You must have overlooked the fact that being rated as the 54th best player in a down sophomore class, which also lost quite a few top players last year, is far from "respect."

IUPUI gave DJ great respect today, they devoted someone to him for 94' and made him work and we simply do not have anyone else who can put the ball in the hole or distribute.

Hmmm

And I thought you spent most of your time at the scorers table. One would think that having that courtside seat you may have a better feel for things. How many different players have been in double figures this year.

I daresay you are also lucky this site melted down as I am still reeling frm that diatribe you put out a couple of weeks ago implying that you were behind the team last year. Multiple times you stated that we were not a very good team going on to say many negative things you have now revised to make your self seem overly bright and masterful. I remember reading your posts after games last year thinking you were a kind of TOS apologists and revisionist. Wish I had those threads as you would be totally outed

Maybe a math approach would help you out here.  Take the number of division one college basketball programs and multiply that number the number of sophomores that one can expect to find on any given team.

Once you have that number then say to yourself  "Only 53 of those guys are rated higher right now than D.J."

I hope you understand the difference between being respected and being adored. If you do then you'll hopefully have a better perspective on the way he is viewed on this website vs. Draft Express.

However if you think that he should be thought of by Draft Express exactly as he is thought of by those who watch him every game on this website in order for him to be shown respect..... then there is nothing I can do to help you look at this any other way than the way you already do.

The only consistent scoring threat has been DJ, that is a fact.  As far as last year, I did state that the team was not very good but getting better and would find their stroke towards the end of the season, my comments were to the people who where having early season melt downs at the start the Cats had.  You seem to only want to practice selective memory.  Nice try though.

Brett Edger was impressed with DJ

D.J. Cooper, Ohio: It wasn't enough that Cooper put up 29 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. He also decided to hit the winning basket in the Bobcats' 67-65 win at Illinois State.

Keep grasping for straws. Our best player, possibly since Gary Trent and possibly the best player in the entire MAC this season is not even being rated as a top 50 player in his class. That's laughable for the league and to Cooper, not in any way respect. If he's seen these ratings he's fired up, not happy for the "respect."

How about a Cousy Award Candidate for a little respect.

Yet I notice you're afraid to simply do what I asked you to do and perform a little math -- not surprising at all since you refuse to actually engage in any real evaluation of your empty statements.  I bet you're afraid to even state how many teams in the country are better than Ohio right now as way of having to actually find out that you just MIGHT be wrong...that's simply impossible isn't it?

It doesn't even matter if you are or are not a Bobcat fan....... you decide that a player who was nowhere near the top 50 coming out of high school but now finds himself knocking on the door after just one season is nothing but meaningless.

Your brain has spoken and that's that.

No one is being naïve enough to state DJ is positioned to be drafted.  The numbers simply do not support it (e.g., he’s only 5-10, on average only 10 seniors are taken in the first round, leaving too many numbers to be called before his is called at #54, Cousy Award is strong, but is hardly rarified air – he is one of three MAC guards).  What is being said is that for a sophomore guard, he is getting national attention and respect that is very much deserved.  Congrats D.J. glad you are with us now, and the next few years.

The fact that a 5'9" guard is rated that high is pretty amazing in and of itself. This is not a rating on who is the best sophomore basketball player. This is a rating on how NBA GMs would consider him for the draft.  That's why Zeke Marshall, a vastly inferior college basketball player, is ranked higher. He has an NBA body. D.J. Cooper does not.  You can poo-poo this all you want but it is respect that he is listed at all.

You haven't said anything to back up your empty statements either. Do the math? What math is there to do? We have a point guard who was our best all-around player last year as a freshman, and is now the leader this year. This a guy who went from a mildly recruited player to a star on a Final 32 team. So to think he was going to just stay where he was out of high school is stupid and not comparable.

Now, if these same people rated him as like the 90th best sophomore in September, and now changed him to #54, that would be respect. The only thing happening here is they are throwing him a bone for his solid freshman season. A very small bone, since #54 as a sophomore would put him off any NBA GM radar for the most part. So again, no respect in my opinion is being shown. He's not being overrated or underrated on that website. He's just about where I think most people would put him. It's certainly no "DJ Cooper has arrived" moment.

Now, let's have another long response in an attempt to talk down to people because you are the self proclaimed Wilson Hall Record Holder who apparently knows all.

I nominate this for the second stupidest thread I've ever read.  I still hold the record for stupidest, and I won't relinquish that honour without a fight.  Bottom line, DJ is an excellent player.  He's not ready for the NBA.  He might have an outside chance to get drafted if he stays all four years and continues to improve each year.
