Anyone notice that we have already lost more home game this year than all of last year? What ever happened to taking care of business at home and making our home court  a feared place to play for the opposition? 
It's looking like we are in for a long season.

What kind of "home court advantage" do you get with 3k in the stands?

I would repeat that in the good old days, Ohio went on the road for a couple of money games and a tournament or two during December becasue, with the students gone, there was little to no HCA.  I hope the current leadership learned something from this years December scheduling.  One thing is for sure, playing all those home games in front of small crowds didn't result in nearly as many wins as everyone expected.

Or, maybe right now, we are just #148 in the country!  I hope we don't end up there!

we just lost to a 4-7 robert morris AT FRICKING HOME!!!  we are looking UP at 148 with envy, my friends.

The December games in front of small crowds have always been a part of the Convo.  The problem is with the team not getting it done against teams they should beat.  I can only remember a few big crowds while the students have been on long break.  It is not fair to tell the team to go on the road for 6 weeks.  WVU games always brought a decent crowd and the UK game was packed.  Of course, we did not have much of a home court advantage when the other team brings more fans than we do into the Convo.

I am mixed on the move to semesters, but one positive that should come out of this is student attendance at the last football game of the year and basketball games in December.  At that point, I am in favor of taking a two week break from home games around Christmas.

695...I am simply saying back in the "good old" days, that's what they did.  I remember one trip to play UCLA and USC.  I remember things like the Syracuse tournament nad one in Louisville.  This can be good times for the team to "bond" as well as play.  There were also always a few home games thrown in there.  As has been pointed out, we got a 10 home game schedule but we sure didn't do much with it.  I would also add there are plenty of "regional" teams we could play on the road and end up at 7-7.

I'd say it's not fair to the players to subject them to playing in front of small crowds at home when the students are gone.  Let 'em travel and have some "fun" instead.

For better or worse the Ohio Athletics powers that be wanted to get make more home OOC games a priority for this year. I can't remember if it's been said if that will continue in the future or not but the fact that OHIO has lost all these home games over the course of the season has been very disconcerting so far. We played a solid mid major like schedule at home against teams that will contend for conference titles but aside from Temple none of the teams we played at home were worlds above MAC level play. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to lose that many home games against that schedule. I guess the pro is that the team is nice and rested for MAC play but OHIO had a great shot to try and win some fans over with the carryover of last year and the home games and it seems like it'll just continue to be the same ol same ol which I'm sure a lot of the fans here will just love. Enjoy mediocrity.

I actually applaud Schaus and Groce/Fuss for the schedule they put together this year. I think the Home heavy slate of OOC games has been awesome and we've gotten some intriguing opponents into the Convo. It's been really fun getting to go back and stimulate the local economy a bunch this winter. I hope this is the case for years to come. My concern is with the losses we've been piling up. I'm sure it's a red herring and will turn around in the future, but this schedule was a great chance to rack up some good home wins heading into the MAC play, and unfortunately it just didn't happen as planned.

Didn't we have a late summer trip in which we played a few games in Central America?  And, didn't the frosh play in those games?  If so, that plus the large number of home games so far--we don't seem to be where we oughts to be.

In the good old, old, old days, back before most of you were born, we used to play the likes of Purdue, Northwestern, Ohio State, Indiana and then-powerhouse Loyola (Chicago) at home in December. I remember AD Bill Rohr once saying he'd like to make it a policy to schedule at least one Big 10 team at home every year. One year, if memory serves, we actually had two. Perhaps, when we return to semesters (even though it's a dumbed-down 14-week term rather than the traditional 16-weeks) we can beef up the December home schedule. I hope by 2012-13, our team will be ready for the challenge. GO OHIO!

OCF, I was born in those days but was just a kid and didn't know much of what was going on in Athens, Ohio.

I think it was much easier to schedule in those days.  Coaches weren't angling for RPI points, and money wasn't as much of a factor.  You'll also have to admit we played more small colleges during the regular season back in those days...Marietta, MacMurray, etc.

Perhaps a little easier to schedule big time teams in those days, especially when you had a coach with Jim Snyder's reputation in the coaching profession.  However, Miami and a few other MAC these days have scheduled some heavy weights at home (excluding the Temple gambit).  We do need to step up our level of play in next for this to be possible, I'd think.  If we could make a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 appearance next year, it would be easier to upgrade the schedule.  Some will say that that would make others schools avoid us even more at home, but it doesn't always work that way.  Some will say that if we reach the Sweet 16, JG will be out the door quicker than you can say "bobcat blitz" and we'll be starting over from scratch.  Perhaps, but I prefer to think more optimistically.   GO CUBS . . . let's play three!

If you want to bring big names to Athens, you have to make deep tournament runs in consecutive or 2 out of 3 years.  You have to establish yourself as a program that's worth going on the road to play.  Gonzaga didn't pull in marquee teams immediately; they had to show it would be a benefit for other teams to play them (even then, they have to play on semi-neutral courts a lot).

Look at the mid-major sweet 16 qualifiers last year and their home schedules this year.  How many were able to parlay that success into a big home opponent?
