The Coach says the pre-MAC schedule was "rigorous" and he liked it.  Sagrin says the schedule is #191.  Has to be one of the "weakest" OOC schedules in recent years, I would think.

Am I missing something here?

Well, some of us may feel that we are better than we really are. Being 7-7 feels different for those actually on the team.

The AD got us 10 home games and Groce wasted the opportunity losing 5 of 10 at home. We lost to 2 Summitt league teams an a NEC team plus an A-10 and CUSA team.  This wasn't Ohio State, Cincinnati or Xavier coming into town and whippin' our butts it was IUPUI and Robert Morris.  This schedule was supposed to set us up for a 20 win season. We are looking like 20 losses. We look like a 6-10 type MAC team so far. How many losses to Miami, Kent State, Akron and others will be have in the Convo this season. Do you seriously think we win in Muncie, Mount Pleasant, K-zoo, Akron, Kent, Buffalo or Oxford with this team? I count atleast 10 MAC losses based on our non-confrence performance.  We got a tough road schedule against the 3 best MAC west teams this year.

Consider the source.

Same person said  If that was the execution you wanted then we really don't understand the game or do not aspire to greater things. Bigs getting ripped in the lane, Guards forcing shots and leaving kellogg on the corner wide open

I’ve got to give our bigs credit; they threw it out(side to the perimeter players).

I’ve got to hand it to our guys: they really executed everything offensively and defensively that we wanted to get done, probably from about three minutes and down at the end of regulation and into overtime

If that was the execution you wanted then we really don't understand the game or do not aspire to greater things. Bigs getting ripped in the lane when they kinow the calls have not been there all day, Guards forcing shots and leaving Kellogg, TJ and Tommy on the corner wide open. One more pass not done on at least three possessions that would have resulted in a better shot.  Multiple bobbles leading to scores on the RM end in the final 5 minutes continuing in to OT is not really what you want is it? Nice part of the archived stuff on the ohibobcats site is that instead of trying to reconstruct this from memory you can go back and watch it (which I am beginning to wonder if the staff is doing with a critical eye that an opponent would view it with)

There is not a reason this team can't run the MAC. Just got to Coach em up. Tough love and discpline. While most were happy with the Norfolk game I would have much preferred to pull out an old Bobby Knight ploy and force my kids to run through the entire offense each time down the floor. If you are getting anything you want off a weak team then use all 4 or 5 passes so that the uncoachable and unteachable  who are having trouble remembering the plays are forced to face their shortcomings and fix them before we really need them down the stretch at crunch time. Really think about it. How many of you gasped when Freeman limped off the floor? There will be a time when others have to know where they are and what they are doing

If we win on Sunday I'm looking forward to your post on whether we can run the table in the MAC.

this belongs in another thread but while I'm thinking about it- if we have a Best Avatar Pic on bobcatattack I nominate Pete's Chalie Coles pic. Charlie indignantly exclaiming 'There's no meat in my chilito!' never fails to make me laugh. hard. bravo Pete.

Back to the topic- I think what we're seeing is growing pains from Groce as a head coach. I get the sense that he's still trying to find the right balance between being intense to being too emotional, and I think we see that learning process playing out on the court. It's like he's got the broad strokes down but still has a lot of work to do in the details. I could be completely wrong, that's just my take from what I see from half way across the country on my laptop.

I think when it's all done, the only teams of those 14 that will have losing records will be Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, St. Francis and Norfolk State. St. Bonaventure might end up around .500 playing in the A-10 and Delaware could be borderline around .500. The rest of the teams are expected to be near the top of their leagues.

Our schedule is "decent", not rigorous. If we were a good team at this point in the season our record would be 10-4 or 9-5.

Playing too many home games in Nov and Dec is not a good idea. I've been in that situation where there are no classes and the students are gone. There is too much time on your hands and you can only practice so many hours a day. More road trips and tournaments are better in our case with the quarter system. I didn't say "no" home games, just more road games. The tournaments are great, as they allow you to watch other games and they fill the time when you're not in school.

Great point!  I was thinking the same thing yesterday.  Too much idle time can be a minus rather than a plus.  Just look at how bad some of the bowl games are when the teams have had too many days between games.
