I'm not sure what this game does for us. Having a smorgasbord of EIU, Bama State, and then a branch campus team leaves me still hungry for some real vittles. I guess it pads our win total, but it doesn't really help us in terms of rankings or getting ready for the MAC season. I find this schedule truly mind-boggling. Now after this cupcakes row, we do have a stretch of decent games -- Marshall, YSU, Florida and Stetson, mainly on the road. The Stetson game does look intriguing. The Hatters are now 3-1 with a victory over FSU. But, to coin a phrase, usually reserved on this board for references to That School in Oxford, our home non-conference schedule sucks!

This stretch doesn't do anything for us the fans. Doesn't do anything for our ranking either, but I don't think that's Boals concern right now. He knew we'd be a combination of young, new parts/players/roles/lineups and not very good. To me Boals is using this to get as many possible minutes to collect as many data points and film on as many guys and different combinations as possible without fear of losing games. Now we almost screwed around too much in the first half yesterday but you see the thought process.

It's why we get hockey line changes and frequent subs that seem to disrupt us more than help us.

Let's face reality. This team wasn't getting an at-large bid this year. So rankings mean diddly. It's all about Cleveland. I think Boals knows this and is using this stretch wisely as full on Cleveland prep. Find that optimal 7-8 man rotation, starting lineup and roles.

People say we don't have an offensive identity yet and it's obvious we don't. But again I think that's all part of this data gathering and feeling out process. We'll have something more concrete for MAC play and hopefully have it perfected by Cleveland. It's all that matters.

Nice post. I agree and am comfortable watching the team develop. There are some intriguing young talent on this team. Looking forward to see what they can become this season and beyond.

+1. We started 14-2 last season; I thought we were about to cruise control our way to repeating but instead we finished 25-10 and without even making the MAC title game. Rough start for this years team, but can’t put too much stock into this early part of the season.

These games are to build confidence for a group with a lot of unknowns, youth, and new faces. Of course, the downside to that is if we struggle in these games...yikes.

I'd like to see a comfortable, bench-emptying game today. Given the season so far, it probably won't happen, but I can hope.

I can't stand the tech aspect of our streaming broadcasts. How is it the house sound is this much quieter than the ESPN+ commercials? Why does it always take five minutes for the main camera to figure out proper zoom level?

Was hoping to see AJ Clayton and Hadaway on the floor together in the first 5 games, but Boals seems to always have either DWIII or Wiz on at all times. Will have to have them in tandem today.

How can Sheldon, who averaged 23 pts as a hs jr. and sr., hit only 1 of his first 7 free throw attempts in college?

The more I see of Hadaway and Clayton this month, the more I think Hadaway will eventually take Clayton's spot in the starting rotation. Next year if not this year.

Best part of this first half? Only 7 fouls total between both teams.
