The Ohio alumni team "Ohio 1804" was announced today as a No. 7 seed going against No. 2 seed Golden Eagles in The Basketball Tournament in the Dayton regional at 9 p.m. July 24. The team did not do well last year, but this year's roster looks a little better. It includes former Ohio players Antonio Campbell, Kevin Mickle, Mike Laster, Ryan Taylor, Stevie Taylor, Teyvion Kirk and Tommy Schmock, as well as Jordan Barham (Davidson), Troy Simons (Kent State) and Jaylen Key (Northern Illinois).

Travel is easier said than done, but I'm somewhat surprised DJ, Leon, Devaughn don't try to make a run considering their lengthy and current careers in Europe/Asia.

DJ is still harboring some ill will due to not retiring his jersey, but TBT isn't officially school affiliated.

What is my boy Dartis up to these days? N'dour?

We need to retire Coops jersey eventually. Also surprised Leon and DeVaughn didn’t offer their services.

Forget about DJ and Leon and DeVaughn. Where's Zalenka?

Easily the best part of this last year was how upset people got over various things (who was let on the team, "coaching," etc.) in what is essentially a pickup tournament. Hope it happens again this year.

This thing loses its luster for me when non-Ohio alumni are on the team. Even when Jay Kinney was aboard, I thought it was weird.

We'd have one of the best frontcourts in this tournament if Ndour, Leon, and Devaughn joined up with Tony. What other alumni are still playing pro ball?

We need to make sure we retire the jersey before we start recruiting DJ Cooper III.

I'm all for it but I think he hurt his chances when he tested positive for being pregnant and essentially becoming a joke for national sports media for awhile. Pretty sure even TMZ Sports did a piece on him...

I just hope Dartis is living a healthy life. That kid gave everything he had here, physically, and seemed very limited physically towards the end of his time here.

Was part of the 2022 Newark High School athletics hall of fame class. The ceremony, scheduled for this past winter, was postponed due to COVID complications. Last I heard, he was living in Central Ohio and working for UPS (not sure of what capacity).

Just be patient. Somebody'll accuse DJ of not being faithful to OU for playing on the MAC team, and then somebody else'll use that to retroactively blame DJ for the issues with Christian, and then two other people will remember Julie Cromer's a woman and complain that she's not doing enough to engage alumni.

If you want to call a poster sexist just call them out in that thread...otherwise let's not recklessly blanket our board as sexist for no concrete reason.

Yeah, what a complete, bullshit claim. Like we never complained about her predecessor.

This current version of TBT is ridiculous. I tried to watch some of one of the first two games and the non-stop loud verbal diarrhea emanating from the mouth of the p.a. "announcer" in the background made it worse than unwatchable. I understand the importance of the Rucker Courts in the history of NYC hoops...Fly Williams, Herman "the helicopter" Knowlings, Doctor J., Bernard King, etc. etc. - BUT the camera angles and how the court looks also makes it hard to watch and take even a little bit seriously compared to when it was "in the bubble" that time. But the p.a. (cough-cough) "announcer" is the worst of it.

Rucker alone kind of gives the tournament that extra pop of legitimacy and visibility.

A very cool spot to have a tournament, even with the variables of being outdoors.

That was an exciting ending, clawed all the way back from 20-something down to only needing 4 to end it. Too bad it didn't go 1804's way, but man I wish the Elam Ending was the standard in basketball.

Campbell is still pretty smooth under the basketball and can knock down the 3. Not sure who all watched last year and this year but with this years team, you could definitely tell they had an actual coach.
