Heard from a couple people that Guyton will be back and that his legal problems will be cleared up or close to it soon.

Which team is going to show up, Weds. team or last Sun.?
It's apparent that we have to shoot well to just put us in a position to win each game this year.

Kent State, as usual, plays tough defense...holding opponents to a low FG%.  They haven't been forcing quite as many turnovers as in past seasons.  They have struggled at times to score.  If Guyton is back today, Ohio will have a challenge to keep Kent State working to score.  Will be interesting to see whether Ohio continues to play this 2-3 zone, or whether we're playing more man defense.

One key will be stopping dribble penetration without fouling.

And as others have pointed out, we have be physically tough and keep the Flashes from getting too many extra possessions and shots by getting offensive rebounds.

I really feel like we play better when we are underdogs...it probably has nothing to do with it,but it just seems that way...

There's no question that this team has played better with a chip on their shoulder. That goes along to playing better when they feel slighted. That happened when they beat Santa Clara after getting drilled by Kansas, winning at Illinois State and winning at Akron most recently. I think with a lot of questions surrounding this team on if they can win at home against good teams means we'll see a very focused team tonight and as long as nothing is wrong with DJ we may see another solid outing tonight. FWIW I wouldn't be all that surprised to see OHIO run away with it tonight.

1) kents just does not turn it over.  (Irrelevant, stupid, irrational and probably not true remark for the benefit's of the love's constant rant that Geno is a turnover machine)

2)  First half:  kents is able to get close to the rim and score and we can't--leading to their spurt to go up 10 and hit halftime with a lead of six.

TUNJI IN THE HOUSE.  We just seem to play better when he's on the floor.  I am going to be a firm advocate for him.

Wondered why he didn't play vs. redhawk.

Not a fatal loss.  But an unacceptable one.  We just can't stop the oppo at key moments.

Can someone please tell Ivo he's allowed to pass. I would like to watch the replay and count what % of the time he gets the ball he makes a move to the basket. Has to be 75%. He has some nice moves but he's a black hole out there. Ball goes in, it aint comin out.

That's not just Ivo, that's every other big on the team. Jon Smith has to be licking his chops at how much playing time he's going to get next year. No one else seems like they want to challenge him for PT.

Ivo had a good game - don't blame him for the loss.  Shooting 50% at the line is pathetic.  And again we got hammered on the boards. FT's could have closed this out.

Rebounding--a problem.  But the inability to stop teams from getting close in good shots on us is killing us:  Tonight we are up four with a little over two minutes to go and we lose no sweat to kents, mostly because they kept getting good shots/good position inside, scoring hoops and/or free throws when we had to foul in there.

Up four, I put Tunji in for defense and rebounding down low--'cause what we have without him don't work.

I think this is a good point and if I had to guess, I know why.  Ivo prefers the right block, but DJ tends to go left.  Yesterday, I can remember 4 times Ivo had a guy on his hip that was 7-8" shorter than him in single coverage and never got the entry pass.  DJ never recognized the huge mismatch down low because the ball went to the other side of the floor at the start of the play.  I believe players get frustrated when they do not get the ball when they should have it, so they end up trying too hard to get their shot later.  I love the way Ivo has been playing latley, but he needs to learn that giving up the ball from the post often leads to a better shot later in the possession.

If Jon plays in game situations like he practices, look out.

Exactly, I'm a pretty firm believer our record would be a lot more to everyone's liking if he was on the floor this year.

Rebounding fundamentals CAN be taught.  I don't see any player seeking out someone to block out.  The free throw shooter got his own rebound in the Miami game.  That's an automatic blockout.

Cmon man . You are beating a dead horse. The kid manned up in the press conference and said it was his fault. He did jump to box out, he did not seal and Mavunga swam over. If you are watching at home, in  the Convo or even looking at the game with a measured eye you would see he is the most fundamental of our rebounders now that KVK is gone , Whether he has 1 or 10 rebounds per game it is not because he is not finding someone and sitting on a knee, I wish I had kids here in my school that are that motivated or instinctive. At least let this fanbase show some degree of basketball sophistication and recognize what is happening on your monitor.  If I am not mistaken he has had a number of fouls this year from sticking his ass into guys who are coming in from behind and trying to jump over him.
