How was he able to transfer to JMU and play right away?

Nobody seems to know.  Allegedly some kind of family health issue that required him to go closer to home.  But, JMU isn't closer to Chillicothe than Akron.  So who knows.

I'm watching this game and I'm wondering the same thing.  He played in the championship game last year so I have no idea how or why he would be eligible to play at any point this season.

. Sorry, I didn't mean to hit enter.

His dad, a high school coach passed away as a very young man due to a heart attack. Humpty was devastated and truly needed a new start and to get the hell out of Ohio. Coach Dambrot wrote a letter to the NCAA pleading for a hardship for Hump and they agreed. Under a hardship you can transfer without sitting out.

He was transferring before his father passed.

It was no secret that he and Coach D didn't see eye to eye but I don't remember that he stated publicly that he was transfering until after Craig died in April. I don't profess to know the family real well but I have spoken wiith Hump on a few occasions over the past couple of years before he left Akron. He sometimes let his emotions get the best of him but he is a good kid and was a good student as well. He helped help my wife and I by giving up his free time to speak to inner city school youngsters on the merits of a good education.

You may well be correct but I'd like to know how you came to know that ? If you read that somewhere, I would appreciate the link to understand the exact details and timeline to set me straight.

Thanks

I know the family very well, don't need to read it anywhere. Anthony had some problems down the stretch last year and after the MAC Tournament fiasco he was done. As for his father, he was a real character, and I mean that in a nice way. Was a colorful person who loved basketball and the youth of the city of Chillicothe, and was always willing to lend a hand.
