Another pathetic effort.  No consistency and a complete lack of focus.  This team is underachieving, there is no doubt about it.  No heart at all.

Apparently we've found our own Al Golden in the form of John Groce. Another lost season. He gets a two year grace period in my book for the NCAA tournament win, but for me the games I will attend for the rest of the year have been reduced to a level of excitement that I'd imagine a parent gets from watching their middle school son come off the bench in garbage time.

Hi.  Boxie says the two of us played 40 minutes and had a combined one more rebound than a dead guy.

If this is a lost year then at some point I'd love to see some of the younger players start to get more PT. Build for the future. I'm a pretty firm believer that next year should be a much better year. A starting line up of Cooper, Kellogg, Hall, Baltic, Smith with Stevie Taylor, Jon Mitchell, and Walter Offutt coming off the bench is a dream come true. If Johnson can make a big leap this offseason and become the player we all think he can be based on projections out of HS ball then he can add something as well. Jacobs may not give us too much production next year but he still needs time to develop. Throw him into the fire, let him get burned but more importantly let him learn from that. I don't think 7 points, 1 rebound, 3 turnovers would be that sorely missed by giving Jacobs a little more burn in games.

I don't get the John Groce-Al Golden analogy.

Is it football season yet?

Seriously, I'm not ready to give up on this team, but damn it was hard losing the BG game by double digits after they battled back and had two or three chances to take the lead.

If Reggie Keely shows even minimal improvement this year, we would have two more wins. Yesterday's line was just brutal - 2 points and 4 fouls in 11 minutes.  Something has to be going on; just not the same player and doesn't seem to have his head in the game.

The season is not over by a long shot. Unless we get better in some areas we are looking like a very average team that's capable of playing very well in stretches, but not consistantly. It's certainly not time to start emptying the bench and looking to next year.

He had some nice games early in the year, but hasn't played much since we've started MAC play. His overall numbers aren't bad. He's shooting 46 percent and 77 percent at the line where he was awful last year. He's probably our best rebounder.

But as a whole, his numbers are pretty similar this year to last on a per-minute basis. Of course, we all had hoped for an improvement and it seemed like he was improved early, but lately, not so much. Then again, he's not the only one I'd say that about.

I don't get the John Groce-Al Golden analogy.

John Groce is a young, high energy, charisma guy. He recruits very well relative to the MAC but hasn't delivered a MAC regular season championship (MAC tournament doesn't count, it just doesn't). Sound familiar?

In all fairness, in the last year we've lost Jay Kinney, Stevie Fresh, and Armon Bassett. They were all pure scorers and unfortunately that's exactly what this team is missing. So I'll give him a mulligan for this year.

I don't care about winning and losing. What I do care about is the effort on the court. For a few players on the team the effort is not there at all. In the last two games Devaughn has 58 minutes played and 2 rebounds. I don't care if both of his hands are broken, get more than two rebounds. Big Reg has 20 minutes and 1 rebound. Is that because Groce doesn't know how to get his players up for these games or is it on the shoulder's of the players themselves?

The sky has fallen on this season. I'm a Clevelander, I know all about hope and faith and next year. I'm a die-hard Bobcat fan, the same rules apply. I've come back early from breaks and left late just to squeeze in some extra home games during my time in school. Last night's loss was the death blow to the season for me. We lost to Bowling Green, a team that lost to Howard, the Howard that only has one other win this year (they just lost to Norfolk State last night at home).  I understand that yes BG beat Miami but I don't care. Good luck catching Ball State for that regular season crown while the goons in the East beat up on each other.

I'm an apologist when it comes to Bobcat athletics but I just can't justify all the bad on the team this year. All the home losses, the Kansas Incident, the OOC let down, the Marshall game, and the complete lack of effort on the floor. My enthusiasm will be back in time for our first round MAC tourny road trip to kick off the gusto portion of the 2010-2011 season

P.S. - I really see a lot of potential in next year's squad. Ivo's got the energy of Tunji but also has an offensive presence (not a knock on Tunji, he almost single handedly resurrected the Kent State game). Kellog appears to be able to stroke like Tommy. If Walter's a pure scorer and Smith can rebound, I'm ready to celebrate my senior year with a MAC championship.

I'm ready for a "TOS to Ohio" thread from Pete. (just kidding)

Until the MAC becomes a top 12/two bid league, all that matters is the MAC tourney, and as we saw last year coach appears to be able to get the team to peak at the right time of the year.

So here's to that, and not the end of times.

Um, not trying to be a smart ass...but can you really give the guy a mulligan on these 3 players leaving when he was the one who brought them in to begin with? He deserves the opposite of a mulligan on these 3 players. He deserves a 2 stroke penalty.

No rebuttal for Kinney/Bassett, but wasn't Coleman an O'Shea recruit?

I will not deny, that the high turnover is a major problem. Has been before Groce, but continues(maybe increased) under JG. When the vast majority of your team are first or second year players, I think we'll have the inconsistencies & frustrations that we are seeing right now. The team is constantly learning to play with one another. Gotta slow down that attrition somehow.

Glass 50% full:  We started 0-4 MAC last year and look what happened and we're better than that 1-3 now.

Glas half empty:  Our overall record, our lack of answers.

Pretty sure Willard C. Smith and Jeffrey Townes (Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff) have all the registered marks on the whole "Fresh Prince" font, logo, etc that Stevie Fresh is copying.....Not an IP Attorney, just stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.
