EMU just got done playing one of the ugliest games of the year against CMU. Shut down Bowdry and it doesn't seem like this team has many other options to go to.

2 thoughts come to mind about this game!

A loss to this team means we have quit.
A win against this team means nothing.

Ball State might be the best team in the MAC. A win against EMU gives us much-needed confidence and momentum heading into Muncie. A win in Muncie could signal that we're right back in it.

They don't. Bowdry averages 20.3 a game. Next best is Derek Thompson at 10.3, and he has made only 13 2-point field goals. He's pretty much just a shooter. They try to put a bunch of other shooters around Bowdry, along with a center, but none of the others have been very productive. They take a lot of 3s but don't make a high percentage. Take out Bowdry and they shoot 36 percent. The other guys they play average between 3-7 points.

Statistically, they commit a lot of turnovers and don't force many, they foul a lot and don't draw many fouls, they don't shoot well and allow other teams to get high-percentage shots. They're not a good free throw shooting team.

They are a very good defensive rebounding team, but not an average offensive rebounding team.

Until beating Toledo and then the ugly win against Central Michigan, they had 0 Division I wins.

There's no reason we shouldn't win this one and win it easily. Should be dougle-digits and probably even closer to 20, and that's what we need to get some confidence.

UpSan, at the start of your description of EMU I thought you were describing a team closer to Athens.

I hope that you guys are right.  I'd love to see a blowout.  While I don't know much about their personnel, I took a look at their scores and they have had some pretty close loses to some decent teams.  I just hope that this isn't the night they put it all together, and each player has a career night.  I hope they save that for Oxford Tech.  GO OHIO!

A lot of it could apply to us unfortunately. Except their one relative strength (rebounding) is our absolute weakness, which I hope is not our big downfall again.

If I was JG, I would keep it pretty simple tonight.  My pregame speech would be, "F it, let's just go out there and have some fun.  Play hard, play smart and enjoy being together.  Remember March 2010.  Let's go play like we get to cut down nets after the game."

Agree. Have fun. Play fast. Play hard. If we get up by 25, try to make it 50. Step on their throats. Don't worry about running it up. Just close.

It's hard to play that kind of style or pace vs. EMU.  They strive to make games ugly.  They are an offensively challenged ball club--not good at all.  But they are pretty good defensively and in rebounding.  You will notice in their scores that they have actually hung in there with some decent teams for the most part.

This is the kind of mentality we're going up against.  Read these comments from EMU's 41-38 victory over CMU:

“It was great, physical defense by both teams,” EMU coach Charles Ramsey said. “It was a lot of grabbing, holding and hitting out there. It was a game for the tough minded. I told our guys beforehand what to expect … that it was going to be a boxing match and we’d have to go all 12 rounds. Well, it went to the buzzer.”

I would expect this to be somewhat of a low scoring, ugly affair.  I expect Ohio to win by about 12-15 points.

Dissapointed that we chose to honor our phenomenal volleyball team at such a poor game as far as expected attendance goes.

Good to get a win, but EMU might be the second worst team we will play this year. Still not sure about our ability to close strong, as the lead waned late, but rotations may well have played a factor. This was a game I don't think we learn much from -- Saturday's will he very interesting to me.

Could not agree more.  Early in the game when I saw most of the team sitting in the bleachers of the Ozone I said to myself, "there's no way they're going to recognize them tonight."  But they did.  I'm going to send an email to Schaus in the morning which I'll copy here.  Extreme disappointment will be the subject line of the email.

I believe they schedule these special events to try to boost attendance, which surely was needed against EMU.  Perhaps shows there's not a lot of student support for volleyball.

Was there ever any word on why Keely sat out the first half?

I could be wrong but not only was there little to no advertising announcing this event (there was tons for the hanging of the banner for basketball) but it wasn't even the first thing during halftime.  Combine that with a student oriented concert in Mem Aud and the crowd was pathetic.

As for interest in vb, we rank in the top 30 in the country in attendance.  Nice try though SBH.

Thought I'd give it a go. Helps get the ticker pumping early in the morning.

Yeah, that Ben Folds concert killed the student attendance last night.  Rather quiet last night, but oh well.  Just glad to see that the team could come out and show some improvement over Saturday's game.  Very, very intrigued by the matchup in Muncie.

I believe it is because "practice matters". Not sure if I heard that in the press conference or the postgame with Russ/Rob.

Couldn't agree more. OHIO's best athletic team and they can't even get a Saturday venue? I also thought it was rather cheap to recognize our 1950's championship team a few week's ago  by running them out during a 1st half time-out

Basketball depression here?  Not hardly any chirping at all about the EMU contest.

Didn't have a chance to watch this game as I've been quite busy over the past few weeks.  Can you watch the video online still?  I haven't tried to do that before, but I've heard it is possible.

From the box score, we are still giving up way too many streaks and they seem to happen late in the game. We have to get that fixed as soon as possible.
