Some incredible quotes there...He is no doubt a gamer.  I can't wait to see him & DJ playing together along with Nick.  What a great trio of guards.  Bigs better be ready to catch some serious passes from these guys.

I enjoyed reading that and it completely belies his outward appearance on the court after he makes a big play (I'm very happy to say)


I have no doubt that people in this forum right now have absolutely no clue what they are about to start witnessing on the court next year....it's why I have been posting so much about him.


Electric is the perfect word to describe him.

I am also excited to have Taylor become a Bobcat, having seen him multiple times the past few seasons.
 
However, and I posted this on the recruiting board, I believe his many talents (as well as Cooper's) will be wasted if Ohio doesn't add some quality big men to its roster. If we want Ohio to become the elite of the MAC, or more, we need some quality power forwards/centers to join Taylor, Coop, Kellogg, TJ, Rico, Ivo, Offutt . . .and right now I don't see that on our future roster.

I think we may need to add another big man but I also think that with experience Baltic and Keely will develop into very good players.  Baltic is showing signs that he is already on his way.   And if Keely learns to move his feet better on the defensive end he has all the tools. Keep in mind they are still only sophomores and typically it takes big men longer to develop than guards. I haven't seen Smith so I can't comment on how he'll fit in there.  We are sorely missing a Terren Harbut-type player right now though.  Sayles is about as close as we get right now and unfortunely he just isn't big enough.

    I agree about Ivo - really high on the type of career I see him having. Still, he's not a power forward/center. Keely's position is power forward/center, but he's what? 6-6? maybe 6-7? Smith and the recruit from W. Va., from what I understand, are not power forwards/centers (might be mistaken). This is, and will be for the near future, what will keep this program from progressing to something beyond an average team in a lousy conference.

Edit: When is the last time this program had a true center that saw significant minutes?

Jason Terry, Junior year from mid-way on and senior year was when he was most effective. After him the centers that were recruited didn't seem to be very effective for various reasons. Till KVK's junior and senior years also. I am not sure which player was most effective because of the teams that were around them and they contributed in different ways.

Mike, I'll give you KVK - he was a center, officially. But would you say his game was more finesse than power? Or not?

Steve, definitely Jason Terry. But that's been 15 years ago? He preceeded many fans on this site.

If Jacobs can make a little progress then a 6'10" dude isn't too bad to have in the paint.

Definitely finesse. More of a "Euro" center, of course, but still a center.

I'd argue Delvar was a center, but he was still a tweener type with his height. How about Clay McGowan?

I think Groce has a different bent in looking for the proverbial "center" position. Even scores of teams in the vaunted Big East play without a "dominating" center. St. Johns just took apart UConn and I think their tallest starter was a 6'7 kid. Notre Dame and Marquette as well don't appear to field a dominant center type either. Groce obviously with looking at what's already in Athens and what's coming are the lean, athletic, run the floor types. The Zips have the much ballyhooed Zeke, last I checked it hasn't put them in the hunt for a Final Four run.

Someone might have mention this before but I honestly think that Groce is waiting on this year's junior college season to end so he can sign an impact post player who can come in and play (dominate) immediately.
