In that tournament, I sat in the Buffalo section during a quarterfinal session and was amazed at the behavior of some of the UB fans toward each other!  A few people got into it re:  complaining about some fans standing during the game.  Security had to intervene.

I remember thinking that the UB fans were the crudest I'd seen around the MAC.  I also thought that at the time, they were the only student section to rival the Ozone...I've gotta admit they were a good student section in some ways.

New Yorkers (I'm allowed to say that! I've living in Buffalo since late 2006)

Regarding bad fan behavior... I can't imagine that anything will ever eclipse what I saw from Mrs. Hipsher. She actually made 2 children CRY yelling at them the last time she was in the Convo.

One other reason UB got a lot of support for those two seasons was because they were in the discussion for an at large bid. In fact, Joe Lunardi and many other bracketologists had them making it. That was very crucial in why fans went to the games. Even though they played in the MAC, people thought they were watching a big-time team that had potential to possibly make the NCAA tournament and maybe make it to the second round.

They finished that year with an rpi in the high 20's.

Also, I disagree with Alumni Arena not being nice. I like the arena. I think its nice inside and has nice seating. Its a little confusing the first time your their but I like the layout.

If they ever packed that place, it could be very loud. just my opinion.

I agree here mostly. I think 20s is a big high. Sounded awfully high and looking back, it seems Buffalo was in the 40s in most RPI listings that year. Still very good and leaves a team with some hope of an at-large. The Bulls were good for that time and it was good they had some fans.

I just looked it up on realtimerpi.com. They finished the year 23-10 with an rpi of 30. They deserved an at-large big that year. They had 7 wins vs. top 100 teams.

That Buffalo team is one of a plethora of MAC schools screwed out of an at large bid.  Its sad, really.

As Ohio69 has said before, that could be part of the reason for the recent decline of the MAC; multiple bids would have helped teams retain some recruiting momentum.

One last thing about UB. Their fans always show up if their us a big time opponent. But I don't get why its so big today. Here's a picture I found posted on twitter a few minutes ago of their student section vs. Milwaukee today.
