...I may need to knock on some wood, but exactly one year ago the Bobcats were 16-13 and 6-8 in the MAC. We were also enjoying a 7-3 record over the last 10 games. I'm not saying this team has an Armon Basset type to carry this team to the second round of the tourny, but we do have a DJ Cooper and some other guys really stepping up when someone needs to. I'm looking forward to the next few couple weeks!!

Devo is that person.  His hustle in last night's game was outstanding and he will not be denied.

To borrow a phrase from Ben Crenshaw at Brookline...."I've got a good feeling about this."

I don't know Palmer, I wasn't overly impressed with Devo against BG.  I mean, the hustle was there because he kept trying to make things happen and that is awesome in my book but if the shots are not falling for you, and some games they won't, shoot the ball back out to an open Tommy or Nick or whomever for a 3 or jump shot.  Make the defense collaspe on you and drop that ball back outside.  I just think he was forcing a lot of shots he shouldn't have.  Overall, he's a great player, just had an off night like we all do.  Luckly we were winning the battle of the boards so we got some second look shots but as we all know, that hasn't happened in the past with this team.  But, at least he got this "off game" out of his system and is ready to pounce all over Kent and Akron and Miami.

You are right, the shots did not fall Wednesday but that was an anomaly.   If Devo is getting looks in the paint, diving for loose balls and working hard we are going to win.  He was working as hard as anyone else out there on Wednesday.  Something clicked with him.  You could see it.  I believe great things are about to happen for him and the team.

What I liked about Devo's performance is that he didn't let a bad shooting first half impact his attacking the basket. He kept attacking in the second half which had a very positive impact for Ohio. Calhoun fouled out and I think Ohio was in the double bonus around the 10-minute mark.

Don't forget about the passing. Our passing out of the post last year was a huge reason for our late season surge.  Devo is doing a good job of kicking the ball out.  Hopefully Ivo and Reg are paying attention.

Back in Dec./Jan., when Devo was having consecutive 1-rebound games, I was wondering if he was feeling any sense of urgency with this being his senior year. I think his recent 10-plus-rebound games indicate that he is starting to realize that this is it for him and it's time for him to give an all-out effort every night out.

Now, the questions has become: can Devo take a trip to the foul line and hit an occassional 2 out of 2 attempts instead of the typical 0-for-2 or 1-for-2 trip to the line?

I think all 3 bigs are doing a great job passing out of the post as of late.  Reg seems to be the first guy who started passing out.  It may have something to do with his lack of shooting confidence, but hey, it is working.  I get the sense that many D's are collapsing on Reg as they are licking their chops going for the shot block.  (Take it to the hoop with some authority Big Reg!!)  He seems to pass it out to Tommy the most and I'd guess most of his assists are going to Tommy.

Devo and Ivo seem less likely to pass the ball back out, but that's probably more of them attacking the rim when they get the ball 10 feet from the hoop and face up.  They both have been doing a much better job of dishing it off to the other big, or passing it along the baseline to an open shooter, generally while they are driving to the hoop.  Their offensive moves don't lend itself to an entry - back out - re-post - entry type of possession like Reg's does.  I think this has been the main reason our O has been clicking.  We are not relying on DJ to drive like we were in January.  Now we have a DJ drive / floater / step-back jumper, Ivo/Devo face-up jumper or drive, inside-out with Reg, spot-up 3 with Tommy and Nick, Rico drive and pull-up jumper / floater / lay in.  All have been balanced which is great to see.

We just need to keep up the better play on the defensive end, getting stops and steals.
