This team is roasting hot. Honestly, even though I expected a closer game...I wasn't at all surprised by us destroying them. I have so much confidence in this team right now. On a neutral court, we are without question the favorites in the conference. Sure we could stumble, but in the end we are right where we thought we would be - The team nobody wants any part of in March. They're playing like I had envisioned them playing all year before the season begun.
I love the offense! We seem quicker and playing with more intensity, the ball movement has just been fantastic, and players are taking good high percentage shots. Ricardo & Reggie have really come on of late and are worthy of the few extra minutes they've been getting. They can really be a big help to us in the tourney, especially if Ivo & Devo keep getting in foul trouble.
Ironic that DJ couldn't miss from 3 and Tommy couldn't buy one, given their 3 pt percentage coming in. The team is doing a great job recognizing who has the hot hand on a given night and creating opportunities for them. DJ knows when his shot is working and when it's not. I don't know if he'll win POY, but he is the best player in the conference period.
I'll concede part of Akron's struggles were just plain not shooting terribly well, but overall the defense did a great job of locking down and not giving up open looks. The rebounding is also greatly improved...They're just going after it and boxing out with so much more intensity. If we play intense defense and rebound like that, we cannot be stopped.
Great atmosphere last night, one of the best I've seen on a weeknight in awhile. We should have a large crew in Oxford Friday and in Cleveland next weekend.

Akron did a lot of one-on-one on offense and paid for it. I think the Ozone was in their heads from the get-go. I can't imagine that that was how they run their normal offense. No way they could average that many threes taken playing like they did last night. Of course, that may have been our defensive structure as well. We had a tremendous night of interior defense last night. One telling point on their offense was when I saw Zeke Marshall on at least two occasions throw up his hands in disgust when another Zip player tried to take one of our defenders one-on-one.

I can tell you I got into Abreu's head. At least three times I was talking to him and he looked right at me and responded.
Cvetinovic and McKnight both decided to do a little taunting early on. I don't know what it is about Akron players that they always want to mix it up with the O Zone.

B. McKnight's "shush" to the Ozone was the turning point. After that he threw up a couple air balls, his hair started to go wild and then it just fell apart from there for him. Nice One!
Also, why does he still have the B on his back? His brother is gone...is there another McKnight on the team.
Was fun to see Ozone mix up with his dad as well..

That's awesome!!!
I think it starts at the top. Akron completely reflects Dambrot and his personality.

Not to hijack the thread but one of my favorite instances of odd names on the backs of athletes was with U of Miami in the 80s. Bennie Blades and his brother Brian both played for the Hurricanes. One of them had "Blades" on the back of his jersey while the other one had "B. Blades".

I thought Chris was going to walk onto the court at one point.

That happened when the refs were reviewing a play... I thought he was going to try to look at the monitor with them.

He also was not pleased when Brett got yanked and Dambrot started tearing into him on the bench. I think on the next possession McKnight's replacement, Josh Egner, threw the ball out of bounds on a fast break. Chris stood up and started yelling something at Dambrot. That was one unhappy bench. Lots of finger-pointing and talking back to the coach. Definitely didn't look like a team that had won 7 straight.

Zeke was pissed they would not/could not get him the ball. He had a look of total devastation on his face at the end of the game - I LOVED IT!
Dambrot was visibly pale/shaken.
We DESTROYED THEM!!!!!!!

I have not had that much fun at an Ohio basketball game in a long time. We whooped them. Tunji scored, Coop dominated, we played D, active crowd, ROWDY O Zone (pun intended)....
