Watching EMU vs Illinois State at the moment, and ISU has completely shut Bates down so far, 0 pts in 15 mins, 2 PF's including a tech for shoving an ISU player. Audible boos every time he touches the ball. "OVERRATED" chants aplenty. Anddddd just got called for a moving screen for his third PF. Not a great look with supposedly a dozen NBA scouts in the building.

Farrikhan only with 4 pts. Hope we can do the same when we face them later this year.

EMU falls again. Interesting, in a still somewhat tight game in the final 2 or so minutes, Bates was not on the floor. And part of that time was after Farrakhan had fouled out.

This is all really strange. I watched the EMU-UM game and he and Farrakhan looked quite good. How after that great performance they could look so ugly as they as they do now, is hard to explain. However, looking in the mirror, so far OHIO's best game was the OT loss to the same UM. So, in a sense, we are following the same script as EMU, just a little less extreme. As someone else pointed out, with only a tad of hyperbole, when we played Marshall we looked like UC-C against OHIO. Something is very wrong with this picture. I never remember a season quite like the way this one has started.

I think Bates will get a crack at the NBA based on his Michigan game film alone.

There's never been a season quite like this one. Nearly every roster in the country turned over and it shows in consistency of play.

I knew Bates missed a bad 3 late in the game, it was at the 3:02 mark. At that point, EMU was up 2 and he tried to 1-1 his defender near the top of the key and forced a contested fall-away 3 which missed badly. Shortly after that he was subbed out and never re-entered. I wonder if Stan Heath was sending a shot selection message? If you read the EMU board, that seems to be one of their biggest gripes with the season so far. All 1-1 play, not great ball movement, more of an AAU style of play.

I thought it was surprising that he wasn't on the court given the late game situation, needing 3's. Bates was 2/5 from deep on the night so it's not like he was ice cold.

Heath is no dummy. He's giving him a long leash now and hoping to get everyone to play together. It will either work soon or there will be changes.

Scouting.
That could, of course, be part of the answer, but I think there's something else going on here as well -- things like motivation, team chemistry, tension among team members, etc.

Just saw Bates sentenced to 18 months probation, guess a short lived EMU career!

He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. I believe this will not force him off the team. I think his EMU career continues. Did miss something here?

I'm struggling to understand the connection between Bates & Durant.

Seems Durant was hinting that it was a good thing that Bates was back home and that he might have gotten in more trouble if he was somewhere else. Perhaps, others realized that and it was at least part of the reason he transferred to Hometown U. Maybe I'm reading too much into Durant's comments.
