The clock is ticking on his starting spot and minutes that's for sure. AJ Brown here we come.

Boals has to make this move starting next weekend at Youngstown State. I think we can all see that the pieces are disjointed and he’s got to get Brown as much experience and as many minutes as possible moving forward.

Baker is not the answer. Incredibly disappointing. Not ready to call it a swing and a miss, but it ain’t looking good for Boals in that regard. Can’t whiff in the portal in today’s world of college hoops.

Too early in the season to make that evaluation. He's got a chance to get it going.

Agree it's still too early - but the days are getting shorter. The clock is ticking. The sun is setting. Pick your analogy. He's got about 2-3 games to figure it out IMO.

Clock is ticking for sure.

Devon Baker over the last 5 games...
2pt - 9/39 (23%)
3pt - 1/16 (6%)

There's a lot of season left and time for him to get it together but man, I sure hope he figures it out or else the minutes will be dropping drastically.

My hunch is the he knows it and is pressing.

the portal is yet another way low major teams get screwed over. many a promising player who might have pro potential but isnt quite there will look into transferring to a bigger name school in hopes of more exposure and better prep to get drafted later on. look what happened to ohio with mark sears. he played very well for ohio and showed NBA potential but wasnt quite ready to declare for the draft. sure enough he wound up ditching OU for alabama.

Please compare and contrast this situation with how J. Preston handled his ascent to the NBA. Your essay will be graded by the BA professorate.

Keep in mind how long he let Roderick struggle last year. I'd bet on Baker getting a longer run than BA Nation expects/hopes.

Ah don’t think Baker is going to get the same consideration as BRod did last year. Baker was brought in to produce, period. if he doesn’t Boals doesn’t have the time to “hope” he’ll start producing. Plus you got AJ Brown looking promising and hungry. Plus if Baker looks like he’s more a liability than an asset, to me Boals will probably lean to playing the younger guys helping their development, building for the future and hopefully keep enough young guys happy with PT and not looking to portal out due to lack of such.

If he was 6'7' I might let this go on, but he's too small to not be producing.

Would love to see the rotation try to get some size and length in there with AJ and Rod both starting.

Roderick had a successful history with us though which bought him some time.

How much longer are we going to have to watch Baker start? It should be AJ Brown I can’t believe he didn’t play more minutes in the first half against Florida. Let’s face it…Baker isn’t doing anything to keep his spot in the starting five.

I agree. I don't see why AJB isn't starting.

I'm all for trying something else and think AJB deserves to start. I'm just wondering if it's possible that he's not already starting (even though he's getting starter minutes almost) due to the fact that Boals wants him to work on other aspects of his game beyond scoring?

I say this because he's the most dynamic scorer on the team already. That's obvious. But he doesn't contribute much in the counting stats department anywhere else.

8 rebounds. 5 assists. 1 steal and 2 blocks in 113 minutes. Per 40 minutes that's: 2.83 rebounds, 1.77 assists, 0.35 steals and 0.71 blocks. Not exactly stuffing the stat sheet beyond points.

Just a thought...

For comparison sake, through 10 games Baker is averaging 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

Remember when Saul had that freshman named Jason Preston yet he continued to let Teyvion Kirk bring the ball up the court right up to the very end of Saul's final season in Athens? Not quite the same situation, but Baker over Brown feels similar.

Did you have to remind me of TK? Ugh! But, you make a good point. Sometimes coaches do things that make you scratch your head. Might have to do with team dynamics, practice performance, threats from someone's Dad, and who knows what.

Also might have to do with the fact that TK was an experienced starter and JP was a very inexperienced freshman and may not have been ready to take over yet.

Everyone spends a lot of time assuming that players just are what they are and don't need time to mature or get better or understand the offense or develop physically or develop chemistry with teammates.

AJB is now starting to get "starters" minutes, but Boals doesn't trust anyone with the Sears, BVP, JC 36+ workload.

His 25 minutes was second to Hunter's 26.

This small ball line-up is atrocious.

Time to shift everyone down and put AJB as a small 3.

Someone is reading BA or common sense prevailed. Should have happened four games ago. Also, looks like Hadaway is out of rotation. Bench needed to be shortened.

At the same time Baker put up good numbers today showing he should be getting minutes.
