they picked Mulkey over Cooper as the point guard. Whatever. they also had Greene, Silas, Bowdry and I believe Winsbush also. Greene was their pick for player of the year.

Right, Cooper has him by 2 points and almost 3 assists per game. Mulkey does lead the league in steals by 0.3 ahead of Cooper and he's shooting slightly higher percentages. But Mulkey also trails Cooper by a lot in assist-to-turnover ration. To me, it's not even close as to who is a better point guard.

Also thought I just saw a graphic at the end of the game showing the MAC preview show at 6 p.m. Monday? I think 9:30 is a replay.

Good motivator.  MAC Championship and NCAA berth are much more important than STO 1st team.

If DJ wins MAC tournament MVP I'd take that over MAC POY

Michael Reghi and Steve Mix made it clear all season that they favored Mulkey as having a better season over D.J. Cooper.  The main criticism they had of D.J. is his shooting percentages.

I will take team championships over individual honors any day of the week. I have heard the team do the "all for one one for all" at the end of the game several times. Always been impressed by that thought.

With a lot of these awards they are made well in advance.  Nobody and I mean nobody in their right mind would leave D.J. off of the 1st team MAC.

In conference games here are their stats:

Pts
Cooper: 15.1 ppg (9th)
Mulkey: 13.4 (17th tie)

Reb
Cooper: 4.7 (NR)
Mulkey: 3.6 (NR)

Asst*
Cooper: 7.6 (1st)
Mulkey: 4.2 (6th)

Stl
Cooper: 1.8 (2nd)
Mulkey:  1.87 (1st)

Asst/TO
Cooper: 2.33 (2nd)
Mulkey: 1.40 (7th)

Off Reb
Cooper: 0.80 (NR)
Mulkey: 0.20 (NR)

Def Reb
Cooper: 3.87 (14th)
Mulkey: 3.40 (NR)

FG%
Cooper: .391 (NR)
Mulkey: .425 (NR)

3pt %
Cooper:  .403 (14th)
Mulkey: .418 (9TH)

FT%
Cooper:  .773 (10th)
Mulkey: .782 (9th)

* The difference between their two assists per game total would be ranked 9th in the MAC.

I went to the Milwaukee/Cleveland State game last week  at Wolstein. Reghi was sitting a few seats to my right. He had the classic painted on hair sportscaster look. Does he do Horizon games?

Mulkey is a very good point guard. I'd take DJ eight days a week, though.

But according to Mix, DJ can't go right. Then again, he thinks everything Reghi says is funny.

The stats are close but in DJ's favor.  The list should have included the last two games.

If I was voting, based on the fact the two teams split and the stats are so close, I'd go with who is the closest to being the lock down defender.  Who would that be?

First of all, the stats aren't that close, particularly the ones that are important for PGs. Here are their head-to-head numbers this year:

Cooper:  30 pts, 13 asst, 8 reb, 7 to, 4 stl,  10-25 fg (40%) , 4-10 3pt (40%), 6-7 ft (86%)
Mulkey: 25 pts, 8 asst, 5 reb, 6 to, 2 stl, 10-23 fg (43%),  3-11 3pt (27%), 2-3 ft (67%)

An argument could also be made that Mulkey is only the third best player on Buffalo behind Filsen and McRea.  There is no doubt that DJ is the best player on the Cats, who just happen to be the better team.  '

I like Mulkey and think he's a good player but he's not DJ.  He's just not.
