Make no mistake, DJ took 2 very bad shots early in the shot clock in the last 2 minutes when we should have been working the ball inside. Cost us the game.

No he didn't.  One of the plays you are referring to came with 14 minutes left.  The second one was even earlier than that.  I agree that neither were good shots but neither came close to costing us the game in the last two minutes.

I just looked back at the play-by-play on ESPN.com and do not see the shot that I think everyone is referring to, but I definitely remember it happening.  I want to say that it was around the 4:00 mark or so cause the TV guys of ESPN3 were making a big deal about it too.   If I remember correctly, we had gotten an offensive rebound and passed it back out to D.J., who took the shot from at least a few steps beyond the arc, even with a fresh shot clock.

Then again, maybe I am remembering incorrectly

EDIT:  I stand corrected.....I just watched the replay on espn3 and fast forwarded to the shot at 8:06 left and that was the one that I was thinking about.  Seemed like much later in the game at the time.

Hey, it's still bad clock management and shot selection and as the announcers said all night, leads to DJ having a pretty low shot per centage to be a go to guy.  Probably one reason why he wasn't POTY.

The bench was very weak and they were poor tonite. Anytime Baltic or Washington were out we fell apart.  Keely is a big drop off from Baltic/Washington.

This might be the smartest thing I've heard you say.

Offensively, yes.  Defensively, no.  I thought that Keely was our best interior defender down the stretch.  I've said it elsewhere, but his defense on Justin Greene in the first half of the win at Kent was huge.  That game got away from us as soon as Reggie got the 3 quick fouls in 20 seconds in the second half.  After that, we couldn't stop Kent in the paint.

We all want Keely to be the next in the Trent, Hunter, Leon line of low post scorers, but just because he's not a 16 PPG guy doesn't mean he is worthless.  A taller Terren Harbut can still be quite valuable.

I don't necesarily think he's worthless. That's a harsh statement. I agree that yes he can be very valuable on the defensive end. However, as big as he is, he's deceptively weak in the paint. I've seen mulitple times where the ball is just taken out of his hands when he had complete control. I dont think he's got great hands either, but a lot of big guys don't. Reggie is what he is. He's a solid MAC contributor.

Reg was clearly better over the last, oh, three weeks of the season.

You are wrong, sir.  At least one of those 'what?' shots came early in a shot clock in the last 2-3 minutes.  It was a 3-point shot from just to the right of head on to the hoop.  I believe it was right at the start of the possession.  I think it was when we had the nine point lead, so a not well thought out effort to put us up 12 and put the game away.  No thought that if missed it could be favorable for Ball, could lead to them cutting the lead which could lead to...

I've not watched closely but I've never seen a hint of Groce being stern with D.J.  Doesn't mean he has to noticeably call him out.  And maybe he speaks with D.J. off the court or in other places that we fans cannot see.

But at least that one shot was not very wise.  It just wasn't.  See the final score for proof.
