Bobcats got down early but went on a run and kept the lead for the remainder of the first half.  Bobcats are the 10 seed, BGSU is the 2 seed.

They are leading BGSU by 1 at halftime, 28-27.

Freshman guard Robinson leading the 'Cats in scoring with 10, followed by fellow freshman Bailes with 8.

The freshmen have really helped carry the Lady Cats down the stretch, perhaps good things are to come if they stay in the program and keep developing?

The Lady Cats are playing their best ball of the year. The improvement is happening a little at a time but now is a great time to put it all together.  The first time we played B.G. it was a closer game than the score indicated. We're half-way to a huge upset- GO CATS!

So... what the hell's going on? Semeka Randall's teams haven't shown much of ... well, anything in three years. They finally figure some s**t out?

Lady Bobcats now down 48-38 after BGSU started hitting their 3 pointers after the break, 10:30 to go.

BG has taken 23 3's so far, hitting 8 of them.  OHIO is 3-11 on 3's.

14 turnovers for Ohio, 7 for BGSU...a case of "been there before?"

Ohio tried to get back in the game after being down 13 in the 2nd half.

They cut the lead to 6 and 7 a couple of times but BGSU made their free throws in the last 2 minutes to put the game away.  Final 66-57.

Hopefully the team will get to stay in Cleveland and cheer on the men tomorrow night.

I hope this is the last game with Randall as the head coach.

I said this during the last coaching change and I know she's an OSU grad, but I wonder if Katie Smith would take the job?  It certainly would energize the program.

Katie Smith is our only hope. She has played what may be her last season in the pros. Although she went to OSU she loves OU and comes to the convo to see an OU mens game at least once a year with her parents. Katie KNOWS the game. The current coach has no clue with X's and O's or how to run a program. I think Katie would take the job and create quite a successful program.

This was a tough time for Coach Randall to come to OHIO, following Coach Crawley, who not only is a class act, but a coach who moved the program  in the right direction during her short stay.

But it’s often the case that there is more of a learning curve for a new head coach than what we saw from our previous coach. New coaches often need some time to develop their program, their coaching style, their staff, and to develop a recruiting base with all its connections.

My sense, with Coach Randall, is that she’s meeting this challenge. This year, she’s put forth as hard a working group of players as I’ve seen. She’s taken their athleticism and developed a solid defensive team which has kept them in games all year. Their major problem has been serious limitations on the offensive end, especially their shooting, and that won’t get you many wins.

So besides witnessing a team that has learned to play with full effort for 40 minutes, especially a solid defense, what is it that makes me optimistic? First, with only 9 players, 5 of them (3 frosh & 2 transfers) are playing in their 1st year at OHIO. And two others are sophs. It takes some time for a new group like this one to start to jell, and that clearly started near the end of the year as they blew out Miami by 30 in their last regular season game, followed that with a solid road kill at NIU in the MAC tourney, before losing a close game in Cleveland to perennial power BG.

Next year, she returns her young base of players, and to that she adds her best recruiting class by far. Now would be the worst time to pull the plug. And I’m sure that’s not going to happen. But she will have to show, in the next few years, that she can win.
