I think I said it is "bad" to be picked for the fourth tournament.  And, it would be "worse" to loose in the first round.  I'm proud to be a Bobcat and I enjoyed this team a couple of times this year and I didn't enjoy them a couple of times.  I said I'm glad they get to stay together a while and practice some more.  I just hope the results are better than they were in 15 of our other games.

Technically, you said the "only thing worse" than being picked for the CIT would be losing in the first round.  That suggests that it is better to not be picked at all.  In any event, while I hope that we win the game, I don't think that the outcome of tomorrow night's contest has any bearing on whether accepting the invitation was a wise decision.  It unquestionably was in my mind.

Fflomo-I understand it, we just have a different attitude.  When I was in school (guess when) the NCAA Tourney took (I think) 28 teams and there wer (I think ) maybe 16 in the NIT.  Mostly Champs of their Conference and a few At-Large and deserving teams.  Now, as has been pointed out, the whole concept of going to a Tourney as a "reward" for a good season is gone.  The whole thing is just watered down and I find it difficult to get excited about it.

True, but aside from perhaps the GMAC bowl, have we ever actually used all 15 additional practices?  My sense is that we usually cut it down to 7-10 extra practices, due to budgetary concerns.

I have actually asked that question, because I had the same impression, and I was told emphatically that for the LCPB and the NOB that the full allotment was taken.

Now what I don't know is if that means that they went "two a days" to reduce the number of "days" to reduce costs, but took the full allotment of "practices".

We need a three-strikes-and-you're-out rule on the use of "loose" versus "lose."  Reading this error causes my hair to fall out by the handful.

I think I am out.  Sometimes it's the keyboard (haha) or my fingers going to fast (hahaha) but I know it is LOSE not the other one.  If you are like me, you can't afford to LOSE any more hair!

This is a gret time for Coach Groce and Co. to evaluate desire , talent and heart. Who is here for the ritght reason.? Who loves to pl;ay? ...it is quite an opportunity to see who really cares and has a passion for it. ......

I remember when we came here one of the most frustrating things was guys who "just did nt have it today" and only gave a token effort. Groces kids never do not compete. They always come with effort. Tehy may not execute or they maybe don't stick to the game plan but they always compete. Big difference in 4 years.

I will add that in 4 years the team has been instilled with core values and goals that are far superior to when we started here. Walk into the locker room and check it out  They have  made progress with regard to a sustained directiona nd attainment and institution of an ongoing approach to excellence on and off the court .

This is one of them. Get in the car and support your team and coaches. sIMPLE

I don't know how borna seems to get some of the inside info.  It's almost like he has ears in the locker room.

I have no reason to doubt that our young men are dedicated.  It is frustrating, though, to see lack of screens well set and used on the offense, and lack of achievement/sound play on defense.

Kinda wondering who will play defense for us next year?  Will we play any defense next season?   Maybe that will be addressed against stupd cow.  Isn't this really the first game of next year?

Monroe the thing in the locker room is the Program Goals painted right inside the door. Maybe McBin has a picture from when he took the tour.

After all my "waffling" regarding whether I was excited or not, I just made a $70 donation to the tournament purchasing 3 tickets ($21 each with a $7.00 service charge).  So I'm pulling my overused OHIO shirts/jacket out of the dry cleaning pile (thought they were done for the year, so I was going to give them one good end of season wash before I pulled them back out next season) and putting them on one more time.

See you in the CAM Henderson Center!!

Let's try this again.

There is actually quite a bit of consistency here from the Bowl thread.  Those that did not want the team to accept the Bowl bid (e.g., Love) feel the same way here.  Others in favor of the bowl are also in favor of this invite.  They are actually very similar as far as rank as prestige.  I too come down consistently between the two.  I stated then it is not about the fans it is about the players.  If the current system allows them to play the game, and they want to play, then we go.  The team wanted to play the Bowl game.  Given comments by Borna, I would guess the team wants to play in this tournament.  I'll defer to Anorris, Dragon and others to confirm.  While not the finish they wanted, I am confident Tommy, Washigton and the other seniors want another chance.  Good luck Boys.  Whether an individual fan is excited for us to be playing or not, the players can always count on the support.

Does anyone know anything about any financial commitments by playing in this tournament?  And I wonder how many teams turned it down-any info?

to those that can go root on the Cats tomorrow night. If all goes well, I'll be able to bolt out of work about 4pm and get there before tip.

I'll never cease to be amazed by a few of our 'fans' that will use any opportunity to complain at every opportunity one of OUr teams has. Especially when it's about a postseason appearance. It's one thing to not care for it, but another to foam at the mouth about these types of things. (just be careful what you wish for!)

I remember back during the OOC games thinking "I wish we could play some of these teams later in the year, we'd have more wins." Well looking at the list it looks like there's a lot of teams that were or could have been on our schedule. I think its a great time to go out and show how we've grown this season. Let it all hang out, go Cats!

From what I've read, Ohio will only be responsible for travel expenses to and from Huntington and the upcoming games if necessary.  Not a bad deal considering the proximity of the game.

There has been some flooding along the Ohio River over the past few days.

If any of you are driving down from Athens, I would check and make sure rt 7 in Ohio and rt 2 in West Virginia are clear. That being said, drive safe and....

The closeness of Huntington definitely makes this a no-brainer.

For me, the slight reluctance is from 1) the sour taste of up 9 with 2:30 to go becoming a loss and 2) the things I don't see from us/lack of consistency and improvement (see above and elsewhere for specifics).

So, now next season begins.

According to this article, $31,500 to host plus the travel expenses of the visiting team.

After the NCAA, NIT, CIT, CBI---how many teams are actually left out of post season play?

I believe it is 205 left out.

I was looking at the brackets for all 4 tournaments, and 12 of the teams (out of 26) that we played this season are still playing in the post-season.

4 - NCAA ( Akron, Oakland, Kansas, Temple)
1 - NIT (Kent St)
2 - CBI (Miami, St. Bonaventure)
5 - CIT (Marshall, Santa Clara, Valparaiso, WMU, Buffalo)

SO 46% of our opponents are in the post season versus 40% of all teams nationally.  Which I guess means we play slightly better teams than average?

I read 1-2 seasons ago (don't remember the source or if it was true) that if you are eligible for a bowl game (even if you haven't been picked for one yet) you are able to start to use your 15 alloted practices even before the bowl is announced (though presumably if you are not invited, once the invitations come out, you have to stop).
