I know its only the CIT, but we owe Marshall one. We owe them a couple actually.

I hope our team sees this as an opportunity, not a consolation.

Is the CBI considered more "prestigious" than the CIT? Or is it the other way around? Who gets the better teams?

Hey look at it this way, we will be one of the first (if not the first) to compete in all four of the postseason tournaments.

One thing I came away with from watching Ohio lose in the Convo earlier this year to Marshall and Temple was the lack of class Marshall showed compared to Temple. Temple, clearly better than Marshall, went about it like they were expected to come in and win. Very professional-like. Marshall, on the other hand, was compared to Tarkanian's Fresno State teams by someone on here. Would love to get even with them Tuesday night.

P.S. Please don't let MH55 see my praise of anything Temple.

I for one will be going to this game. I don't have a final on Tuesday so if some attackers on campus need a lift we can carpool down there, just pm me. I love playing Marshall and I have no love for alumni that complain about any chance to watch our Cats play anytime of the year. I understand that there are expenses involved in this and there is no respect to be gained by anyone outside of Bobcat Nation but unlike every other organization on this campus, the men's basketball has earned the money to cover any expense they incur during this endeavor (that extra unit they picked up against Georgetown last year)

I wouldn't care if this was a one-time exhibition played in June; I'd still support the team playing this game. We're die-hard Bobcat fans, we spend all the off-season waiting for the start of each season. Why can't we all just look at this as an opportunity to watch our guys put the ball in the hoop against our West Virginian rivals just one more time. Heck I'd go to see this game played at Ping. It's fun to watch the Bobcats play, and if you can't or don't want to watch why would you hope that some of your fellow students and alumni don't get the chance to watch? Why would you hope that these kids don't get another chance to play?

It's all about putting in those hours of practice, playing together, and getting better. It's also chance for Tommy Devaughn and Asown to go out on top (no it's not Mount Everest, but it's still a challenge, and a much more honorable discharge than losing to Ball State).

Totally agree. I'll NEVER understand the Marshall mystique that many find so enthralling. To me and my vilified East Coast ethos, I find it representative of the "small hollows" thinking that will keep this program hunting around for the mushrooms and folk medicinal roots of collegiate athletics.

After the NCAA, NIT, CIT, CBI---how many teams are actually left out of post season play?  This feels like my son's postseason soccer banquet where everyone gets a trophy for trying.

Note: 12 teams will advance. 4 will receive a bye into the quarterfinals. Seeding, which will be based on RPI, strength of schedule, conference ranking and geographical location, will determine the byes.

Second round byes, based on RPI, SOS, and Conference Ranking. Interesting concept.

Below is an RPI table. Chances don't look good for a bye if we beat Marshall. But how they truly choose the byes is a little unclear so who knows.

Marshall (22-11) 55
Iona (22-11) 70
Valparaiso (23-11) 72
ETSU (22-11) 91
ECU (18-15) 96
Portland (20-11) 104
Rider (23-10) 105
Air Force (15-15) 110
Northern Iowa (19-13) 112
Furman (22-10) 115
San Francisco (17-14) 120
ORU (19-15) 131
Idaho (18-13) 137
Jacksonville (19-11) 142
Quinnipiac (22-9) 144
NAU (19-12) 150
Santa Clara (19-14) 158
Hawaii (18-12) 161
Ohio (18-15) 163
Buffalo (18-13) 166
WMU (20-12) 175
Tennessee Tech (20-12) 189
SMU (17-14) 207
North Dakota (19-14) 271

Because that makes a lot of sense. This will be good extra playing time for the young guys. and if we win the Tourney then that would be a good thing IMO

I think a lot of this has to do with a teams mindset.  If our guys are still hungry to play and the opportunity is presented--then I think they probably did the right thing.  On the other hand, you see a lot of teams who's mindset is not engaged in these secondary postseason tournaments and the teams come out blah.  Will be interesting to see after the high of last years NCAA run if our guys can get "up" for the opportunity.

I'm sure each fans perspective will vary too.  Personally, I kind of felt the season ended in Cleveland on Thursday night.  I think there should be one of  two formats.  Either an expanded NCAA tournament, or the NCAA and a legit NIT.  By legit NIT (and I haven't payed attention as I think they're trying to do this now) I mean teams say in the MAC like Kent State who won the regular season title and lost in the championship.  The NIT should be a great opportunity for such teams.  But creating all these opportunities that go 5 deep in the MAC--I haven't grasped the concept yet.

But the bottom line is, if the opportunity is there and our guys want to participate--they should.  I just think that if our guys aren't in the mood and lay an egg in Huntington, this would just add an even more sour taste to the end of the season.  On the other hand if we win this tournament, or go deep, it could be an energizer as we go into the offseason.  Each fan can make their own mind up and I'm sure if your team gets on a run in one of these tournaments your excitement level could change.

See tipton's long post in another thread; it's about playing THE RIGHT WAY.

And if Ethan doesn't get 20-25 minutes in this game, we should make the coaches pay our costs for this game from their salaries.

A much smaller portion of DI basketball goes to any of those four than FBS teams go to bowl games.

I think the season should have ended in Cleveland.

However, I see a lot of potential opportunity here.  Any time a team can get more time playing in on a season, it is a good thing.  Players can develop more with the extra game(s) they play and who knows ; we may even have a championship from this.  I think we have a lot to gain from this, if the opportunity is utilized properly.

See, I'm looking at our roster and who we have for next year in terms of guys 6'8" or bigger and I see only Ivo Baltic, Reggie Keeley and Ethan Jacobs.  Only three bigs there.  Definite question marks for next year on the large side of the equation.  So, if we get an extra game why would we not take a long look at 1/3 of our size for next year?

Play Ethan.

There is no way to look at this except as post-season exhibtion games.  Think House of David, Harlem Globe Trotters, NY Yankees tour Japan, Cleveland Browns play basketball in YOUR HIGH SCHOOL GYM!

I'm sorry but the excitement just isn't there for me.  Not to mention that coming during Finals week it makes me wonder about the priorities of the staff and AD's office given that it is essentially all for show.

I'm glad that some want to go watch and cheer for the 'Cats and I don't want to deny the entertainment value of beating Marshall but then what?  Will you travel to Quinnipiac or East Tennessee Tech or Oral Roberts, too?
