I mean wow...and I can't even question Lunardi's thinking.  Where did you you go Earl Boykins...Marcus Kennedy...Wally Z...and Gary Trent?

Sad state of affairs for the Mid-American Conference.

To be fair, with the extra 4 at-larges, that pushes a lot of AQs down a line. So a 16 this year would've been a 15 in past years. Still, 15 for the MAC champ is sad.

I agree.  I'll bet anyone that this won't happen.  I'll even give 10-1 odds against.

I'll bet you $10 on that OCF.  Check the time of the post - it's before the brackets have been announced.

You're on.  I'm watching the seedings and they have not yet announced Akron.

15 seed is still pathetic. I'm guessing OHIO would have been the same.

Yes, pathetic is the word for it, but I'm enjoying thinking of ways to spend my $10.00 nonetheless!

How about the attendance at The Q? 8900 for a championship game for all the marbles pitting two local teams! That is pathetic.

I'm embarrassed that our conference champ only got a #15 seed in this tournament.  However, I'm not surprised.  Kent would have gotten a marginally better seed IMO.

Looking forward to the day that the MAC champ is a solid #12 or better.

The previous Akron-Kent matchup at the Q in the title game a few years ago drew more.  I was there.  9000 isn't too bad; respectable for a mid major title game.  I'm wondering if weather was a possible factor?

Last year, the Akron-Ohio matchup drew almost 10,000.

I also wish there could have been a better turnout. After all, the two biggest draws were represented. However if you watched the Atlantic 10 finals today on CBS, that attendance didn't come close, and that place wasn't near what the Q had. MVC is what lots of us aspire to be, and their finals were listed about 1800 up from the MAC's.

Like Jeff mentioned, weather wasn't good - never seems to be during the MAC tourney up there.

Now if Ball State and Miami, or heaven forbid a Michigan team would have been represented, then you'd see the big dropoff. I'm thankful it was Akron/Kent for TV's sake. (Ohio would have been a decent turnout too).

Sidenote on poor attendance by school: And this happens almost every year also in the early rounds, and the few that want to watch every game know this well. There is a minimum that each school is on the hook for in Cleveland, and I unfortunately do not know the minimum. However Ohio has nothing to worry about, much like Kent/Akron. But for the schools like BG(this year) that can't sell their minimum(can't draw fans), they're more than happy to sell their extras to Ohio fans, or anyone, at near 50% discount. That way the school at least recoups some of their money. Meanwhile, WMU table butts up against BG's and watches BG undercut them for the same exact seat (there's a econ lesson in there somewhere).

I was sitting right behind McKinney and Mike Johnson who were about 6 rows up in the BG section.   Gentleman, tell us what you got your tickets for?

Yeah, Jeff & Mike were in row 6 or so, and ours were in row 2. $20. I also remember EMU or Central having even cheaper seats than that in years past.

The weather was fine in Cleveland. I happened to be there to see family and was right on Prospect visiting Mike the Hatter, looking for a new panama hat for the summer. It was completely dry and anyone coming from Akron or Kent would have no problem. Not to mention alums living in Cleveland.

It just goes to show you that hoops in the MAC are not a priority and no one really cares enough for the schools to want to spend money and get better. It's obvious.

Our seats were close to half court six rows up.  $20 per ticket for two games.  Not bad.

As far as conference tournament finals go, the MAC ranked 12th based upon what I could find. But yes there are schools, like EMU and BG, who will never support their team.
