While watching the ESPN3 telecast tonight the announcer said, "Kent State's best lineup includes four slashers that face the basket and can take their defender to the hoop off the dribble and one big inside guy."  I get the impression this is the type of roster JG would like to build (minus the suspensions).  I would say however this years OHIO team had the absolute opposite style of play with really only DJ that had that skill set.  I'm hoping some of the new recruits bring this to the table as it was the missing peice to this years team.  Just imagine Tommy with a team full guys that drove/dished?

I think a lot of that had to do with confidence. It seemed like everybody (minus Coop) was afraid to make mistakes and played uptight at times. Hopefully in the offseason, the younger guys will learn to put the ball on the ground and drive a little more. Ivo gained a lot of confidence over this past offseason and he really stepped up big time this season...hopefully the other guys will follow suit.

Wow I just finished a rather verbose post which contained a similar view as yours about what Groce has in mind.

I hope you don't think I was stealing your thunder.

I'd add Baltic to a guy who can put the ball on the floor and slash (minus the occasional travel.) in addition to his myriad of post moves. It's not often you get a guy who can play either facing the hoop or with his back to it. Rico, with his quickness, I think can be an effective scorer with more confidence. How many times did he make a good move, put the ball on the floor and pull up and pass even if his move was effective? TJ is athletic enough to be a spot up shooter with a great ball fake and get to the rim. Needs strength and confidence. I've also heard nothing except great things about how Taylor and Mitchell can score in the paint.

The next step in Baltic's growth is to add a consistent 15ft jumper.  He passed them up all year long and defenders didn't even cover him outside the paint.  If he made defenders respect his jumper he'd be 2x more effective as this yr defenders waited for him to back them down and he still did great with a one dimensional game.  Imagine how quick his first step would be if they didn't wait for him in the paint when he faced up?

Ricardo this year reminded me a tiny bit of Ivo last year.  Ivo last year was also very athletic, wild/out of control most of the time, and not shy about trying too shoot seemingly every time he got the ball despite playing very limited minutes.  Will be interesting if Ricardo does "the Baltic jump" next year?

His improvement was so much an art it was named after him lol.

Imagine what happens if Nick Kellog takes the "Baltic Jump" next year with his outside shooting.
