6-6 at the first timeout. Akron doing a good job early on the glass.

quickly 16-6 Irish as Akron tries to play one-on-one on the offensive end.

Whatever you do, don't say anything bad about Zeke Marshall... cause I don't need his mama coming on here and yelling at me in large font internet speak.

LOL, might spice up the board a bit.

Akron isn't moving without the ball and isn't passing off the dribble. They are going to get destroyed playing like this.

In other news Bruce Pearl getting his just rewards.  And on a side note, the NCAA really showed Pearl and Jim Calhoun didn't they?

Zips do their first good job of passing and sink a wide open 3. 34-30 Irish.

Marshall is forcing it too much on the offensive end.

Right on.  I don't think he is the guy I'd want shooting a J at the end of a half or game either.

And my prediction from the MAC boards is holding somewhat true. All Akron has to do is defend the three point line and they can win this game.

I won't say anything, I'll just let this screenshot do the talking.

Overall though, Akron is playing tough. McClanahan and Cvetinovic are both playing very solid games so far.

I laughed at that graphic.

The McClanahan kid is scary. He's a freshman, isn't he?

One thing that caught my attention, at the 12 minute mark of the second half, ND has played 7 players, Akron 9 with 8 scoring.   Where is all that major college depth?

McClanahan is a junior.  The kid can flat out shoot the ball though,

That's weird. I don't remember anything about him before this year. Glad he's a junior though...

Their offensive structure was terrible the whole game.  They tried to out athletic a good Big East team and that's never going to work.   They didn't make them work on defense at any point in the game.

The sad thing is that even with the loss, Akron can say they made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Apparently, these are no longer considered first-round games -- which technically means there are 60 first-round byes?

Akron had stretches in this game where they played well.  They had a tendency to respond to adversity this year by putting up bad shots, and I saw that happen today, too.  Still, not a bad performance overall by the Zips.

I agree with this 100%.

It seemed like everytime I watched Akron play this year, McNees and Brett McKnight would hurt them with some untimely 3pt shots.

For how skilled of a lowpost player he is I am constantly surprised how much time McKnight spends outside the arc.

And Steve McNees just had a bad year, only shooting 31.8% form deep, well below his career avg.

I think Akron will be better next year than they were this year despite losing McKnight and McNees. McClanahan and Cvetinovic give them a more efficient offensive attack.

Athena: You hadn't heard much from McClanahan because he didn't do much before this year.

And about Cvetinovic: He's graduating and almost certainly going back to Serbia.

I'd heard that but wasn't sure if it was a done deal or not. If so that's gonna leave Akron awfully small after Zeke. Josh Egner is probably gonna have to play big minutes for them.

Well, he was asked today if he's coming back.  His response was, "No comment."  It's not a done deal, but the indications are he's leaving.

They have Dakotah Euton, who has potential.  I'd play him over Egner right now...
