It amazes me that some on here do not let others have a difference of opinion.
"You're not a Bobcat fan" or "you have a low basketball IQ" if you see things differently than myself is an interesting mentality. It's reminds me of what I tell my fifth-graders - it would be a boring place if we all had the same opinions and likes/dislikes.
While I agree with your overall sentiment borna is spot on. Difference of opinion is one thing. Negative stance on everything is another. If we lose we stink. If we win by won it's "why didn't we win by 10?" If we win by 10 it's "we have to learn to put these teams away". If we win by 20 it's "Our schedule sucks."
As for the actual comments, I've already seen two quotes from our players talking about how excited they are that the season is still going. It also can serve as a stepping stone for next year. Are you telling me that Tuesday wasn't important for Reggie Keely? You can discount the CBI and CIT all you want but Groce can walk into living rooms and tell recruits that we have postseason victories in three of the last four seasons including an NCAA tournament victory. He can use our participation in these lower echelon tournaments to show that Ohio has a commitment to our basketball team. Yes, we aspire to better things than the CTI or the CBI or even the NIT but you accomplish bigger and better things by grabbing every advantage you can grab and embracing them. You don't fold your arms across your chest and claim that you are better than that when, in fact, you aren't. In fact, many programs that we can use as blueprints for our future success have played in these tournaments and taken them seriously. So you'll have to excuse me if I follow a basketball guy like Cuonzo Martin's lead rather than some extremely bitter message board poster who feels he is better than everything.
The original post said nothing about the players. It was from giocomo and stated:
WinnIng games in the CIT or whatever the other also ran tourney is named means nothing. It gets the MAC no respect. Butler gets respect. Gonzaga gets respect. But look at the schedule they play.
I agree that winning these post season games does not help recruiting better players. Guys wanna play on teams in the big dance; not the CBI or CIT.
And I fail to see how the post (above) is "bitter". Rather, it's factual.
Groce: We played in the CIT last year and won a game.
Recruit: Played in 'what'?
Groce: The CIT.
Recruit: Ohhh.
