Say what you will about our bad season in the MAC as a whole, Buffalo, Ohio and now Kent State all get solid wins to start the 2011 postseason. It will be interesting to see how Miami, WMU and Akron do, although I expect nothing but a blowout with Akron.

I am personally hoping that this is the start of the MAC's long-awaited return to prominence.  Hopefully we can build off of this initial post-season success next year.

Check out Joe Lunardi just destroy the MAC in his preview of Akron.  I love how he doesn't say a word about the Zips but OU still gets a shout-out.

Western keeps it going with a 74-66 win at home vs. Tennessee Tech.

M#$%i snaps the string with a 76-59 loss at Rhode Island.

Dragon's statistical analysis was off against us but dead on in Cleveland and in the postseason.  They definitely were lucky to have the record they did.

Regression to the mean, suckas!

Now Mavunga can begin his offseason of not working out and playing basketball.  Bad for him, good for us.

Buffalo will be on the road at Western Michigan Saturday for the second round of the CIT.

Wonder if we get the winner?  Mark down another postseason win for the conference .  At this rate, we might be above .500 in the postseason.

Two more wins, one of which is guaranteed (Buffalo-WMU winner), assures that the conference will finish at least .500.

WinnIng games in the CIT or whatever the other also ran tourney is named means nothing. It gets the MAC no respect. Butler gets respect. Gonzaga gets respect. But look at the schedule they play.

It means a lot to the players. It means a lot to the coaches. It is great extra practice that will carry over to next season.

Old Dominion won the first CIT in 2009. They used that momentum and secured an NCAA bid last year, even won a tournament game.

Missouri State won the CIT last year, they were the regular season conference champs of the MVC this year.

If you don't like it you can STFU and GTFO.

It amazes me that some on here do not let others have a difference of opinion.

"You're not a Bobcat fan" or "you have a low basketball IQ" if you see things differently than myself is an interesting mentality. It's reminds me of what I tell my fifth-graders - it would be a boring place if we all had the same opinions and likes/dislikes.

I asm all for a diversity of well thought out opinions and their presentation as such. His response to a poster that almost always pees on the flowers is pretty spot on. He is a bitter Bobcat fan and although he played the game he has not allowed for the evolution.

I am as steeped inthe tradition and history of the game as any one on here but I am also cognizant that Naismith was a pretty progressive fellow. As he visited the Indiana State Tourney in 1918 he said "The game was invented inthe East but it grew up in Indiana". He embraced the changes to his original rules and  was wowed by the passion and fervor with which the Hooosier state had embraced his game.

I hope you're a student and not an alum. The last part of your post suggests an immature individual who is intolerant of any other perspective. Playing in the CBI or CIT is great for the players and fans.  It does absolutely zero for the program in terms of recruiting. Some guys playing ball in HS likely don't even know what these 2 lesser tournaments are. Last year, making the NCAA and beating Georgetown meant something to the University and the program.

Hint:  If you had any class I would have expected you'd edit your post to remove the immature rant.

While I agree with your overall sentiment borna is spot on.  Difference of opinion is one thing. Negative stance on everything is another.  If we lose we stink. If we win by one it's "why didn't we win by 10?" If we win by 10 it's "we have to learn to put these teams away".  If we win by 20 it's "Our schedule sucks."

As for the actual comments, I've already seen two quotes from our players talking about how excited they are that the season is still going.  It also can serve as a stepping stone for next year.  Are you telling me that Tuesday wasn't  important for Reggie Keely?  You can discount the CBI and CIT all you want but Groce can walk into living rooms and tell recruits that we have postseason victories in three of the last four seasons including an NCAA tournament victory.  He can use our participation in these lower echelon tournaments to show that Ohio has a commitment to our basketball team.   Yes, we aspire to better things than the CTI or the CBI or even the NIT but you accomplish bigger and better things by grabbing every advantage you can grab and embracing them.  You don't fold your arms across your chest and claim that you are better than that when, in fact, you aren't.   In fact, many programs that we can use as blueprints for our future success have played in these tournaments and taken them seriously.   So you'll have to excuse me if I follow a basketball guy like Cuonzo Martin's lead rather than some extremely bitter message board poster who feels he is better than everything.

I disagree. A good recruiter essentially is a salesman.  A good coach will make these kids care about it.  Going into a CUSA gym in a postseason tournament and coming away with a win is a selling point.

The original post said nothing about the players. It was from giocomo and stated:

WinnIng games in the CIT or whatever the other also ran tourney is named means nothing. It gets the MAC no respect. Butler gets respect. Gonzaga gets respect. But look at the schedule they play.

I agree that winning these post season games does not help recruiting better players. Guys wanna play on teams in the big dance; not the CBI or CIT.

And I fail to see how the post (above) is "bitter". Rather, it's factual.

Groce: We played in the CIT last year and won a game.

Recruit: Played in 'what'?

Groce: The CIT.

Recruit: Ohhh.

It wasn't necessarily that one post but a sum of all his posts.  And sorry but that isn't "factual".   It's opinion.  I hope to God that Groce is a better salesman than you.   From your standpoint what is the point of recruiting at all?

Groce "You get to play in a great facility in Athens, Ohio"

Recruit "Is that in the Big East?"

Groce "Uh, no the MAC"

Recruit "Ohhhh"

Sorry Jerry, but the fact that I abbreviated my "rant" instead of spelling it out is about as edited as I'm going to get.

I'm just tired of posters coming on this board and pissing in everyone else's Cheerios. If you don't like the CIT then fine, but don't ruin it for the people who do. Any basketball is good basketball as far as I'm concerned.

Good points. I think though in our particular situation having arrived in the CIT shorthanded with a couple of strong seniors off of last years NCAA run (Washington, Freeman) our run this year looks like we are trailing off nicely into the sunset with some of the talent we had last year rather than the CIT run being a precursor to more success in 2011-12. What I'm really seeing in this CIT run is that if Ohio can at least pull out its 20th win here that is good continuity for the program with back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time since probably 94-95. That will set the tone in recruiting as the Groce program moves forward. As I've said before 20 wins should be the standard for this program on an off season, and 25 wins more the norm. With all the attrition coming into this season and only 7-8 real scholarship players the outcome this year is acceptable, IMO.
