This morning I felt like finding out what some former Ohio recruits/players are up to and how they are doing:  Here are a few that I found, feel free to add more:

Maurice Person:  Averaging just under 11ppg and 7rpg in just 14.1mpg for Georgetown College.  I could be mistaken, but I believe that he is the guy in the photo at the top of the basketball section of the website....http://www.georgetowncollegeathletics.com/roster/8/1/2077.php.  Georgetown has started the season 8-0.

Jay Kinney: Has gone the JUCO route and is at the College of Eastern Utah. He is listed on the roster but according to the stats page it does not appear that he has played at all this year.  Does he have to sit out a year even though he transferred down?  Either way, the team is 7-2 on the year.

Marquis Horne: I have not been able to find out where, if anywhere, he is playing.  I found some postings saying he was looking at Columbus St CC and Tennessee State, but do not see him on either roster.  I wonder if he decided to hang them up?

Will Thomas: Averaging 8ppg, 6rpg, and 1apg in 22mpg for West Virginia State.  Has started 3 of their first 5 games.  The team is 4-1 through those games.

Good to see that some of these young men are continuing their education (most important) and playing ball.  I wish them the best of fortune.

Continuing this thread, here are some more for the where are they now pile.

Allen Hester - Oklahoma Baptist Univertsity, averaging 10 points a game, his team is scoring over 90 a game.
http://www.obubison.com/roster/8/1/1118.php

Frankie Dobbs- Bryant, obviously most people are aware he followed TOS to Bryant. Dobbs is the team's leading scorer at over 15 ppg. He's also shooting 40% from long range. http://www.bryantbulldogs.com/sports/mbkb/2010-11/bios/Do...

Stacy Waters- He is at DII Wayne State. Last year he averaged less than 2 ppg there. This year he started off slow but just dropped 30 on Mary Grove, he is now at 11 ppg. http://wsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=3315&path=m...

Steven Coleman - http://www.myspace.com/steviekush

Jeremy Fears- He plays for PBG Poznan in Poland. He is averaging 7.6 ppg through 5 games so far this year. http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=POL&PlayerID=46287

Also this is a pretty good sight for finding former bobcats playing oversees. You can click on roster then pick a recent year to see where everyone is playing.

Here is a full list of former bobcats on that site: http://www.usbasket.com/team.asp?Cntry=USA&Team=489&a...

This is kind of depressing.  7 former players either playing college ball elsewhere or just choosing not to altogether despite having eligibility.

I do love hearing about Stonerook, Flomo, Hunter, Esterkamp, Harbut, Tillman, Leon, etc dominating in Europe though.

Did Bert Whittington play anywhere last year?  I understand he is now serving in the Army.

Zach Nagtzaam "Air Canada" is still doing some kind of work with the basketball staff here at Ohio,  correct?  Any idea what he does?

Armon Bassett is playing in Israel somewhere, but I'm not sure what team.  I assume the Israeli Superleague. Anybody else know more?

Mike Harris  I know he had a heart condition, so I assuming his basketball career is over.

Out of all these guys, besides Bassett, we could really use Maurice Pearson.  I was anxious to see how good he would turn out. Such a bummer we lost him over such an immature incident.  Glad to see he is over all that and doing well over in Kentucky.

Immature incident, yeah. But I was actually surprised we gave Mo the boot. He could have recovered from it.

Zach Nagtzaam is going for the record of tallest student manager in the nation. Weren't trying to see if he could pitch for the baseball team?

Marquis is with the Salt Lake CC Bruins, who are currently 8-1.  No stats for Horne, so I'm guessing he is sitting out a year..http://www.slccbruins.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=218&path=...

One has to really enjoy that Marquis attended HS at Ohio but I believe he already blew his chance at taking care of his Personal Motto when he left Athens.

#3 Marquis Horne

Position: F
Height: 6-6
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Atlanta GA
High School: Ohio University

Varsity Letters: Basketball

Club team: Lincoln Heights Tigers

Personal:  Son of Melvin Horne and Corliss Ruffin
Major: undecided
Born: January 1, 1991

Personal Motto: Play for the love

Isn't it ironic that the Morris twins are still playing ball at Kansas and the incedent with high powered air pellet guns has all but seemingly been forgotten while we are still sitting here following Mr Pearson's carrer at a small college far, far away.

Does anyone really know why Marquis left? You'd think I'd know with how closely I followed Princeton's senior year. Horne and my brother graduated together yet I have heard several differing stories.

Don't know why he left (I heard he just lost the desire), but I do know he wanted back on the team and was at the university for the academic year.

Players that we're once here at some point in time but have now left. Of course it'd be easy to know that if you posted more than just what basketball was like back in the 70s.

Hey, the 70's had great fashion! Not to mention shag carpeting. I follow the teams, but don't wonder about a guy who had a cup of coffee, if that, with the Bobcats. How long were some of these guys on the team?

8 of the guys listed played at least one full season for Ohio. I can understand not knowing a football player but there's only 13-15 guys on a team in a year and about a 3 or 4 player turnover in a given year. Will Thomas was a highly touted recruit who verballed then pulled it back to go to WVU and do nothing. Nagtzaam battled knee injuries ever since arriving in Athens and never played. Other than that most every other kid listed has played and with the exception of Waters played quite a bit.

Just updating this a bit:

Looks like Kinney played in 13 games and started 8. He averaged almost 13 ppg and shot over 40% from 3PG.

http://www.ceu.edu/athletics/mbb/2010-2011Season/html_sta...

Haven't read about any recruiting interest.

Pearson ended the season with 10.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, shot almost 57% from the field and 71% from the FT line

Edit: He did this while only playing 18 mpg....imagine if he played 30+

Maurice Pearson put up good numbers in a recent NAIA Div. I national tournament game in Kansas City to help lead Georgetown to a win:

6 Division 1 cast offs of pretty good stature onthat team. Haddix from Miami and others. I would be very surprised if they were NOT in the NAIA Finals. Teamis loaded with pretty good talent, Intersting the number of kids who came home to play their SR year. Georgetown is the n=home of a big time Blue Chip camp. Got to wonder how that influences those kids asw they are growing up.

On a side note:  the NCAA Div. II Elite Eight national championship tournament moves to Northern Kentucky University next year.  It would be fun to buy an all tournament pass for the seven games.

Agree, Jeff.  When you're about to buy tickets, post this again.  Would love to join you if circumstances (work!) permit.
