Post reporting that the opening act has been selected.  Far East Movement.

Not my personal preference in music, but I think that is definitely a show that will sell.  Applause to UPC for bringing two acts each with a #1 charting hit within the last year to town.

Yeah, exactly.  I'm not a huge fan of B.O.B but I'll DEFINITELY spend the money to see Far East Movement open for him.  To each their own, I suppose

The REO concert I'm thinking of was in spring (or maybe late winter) of '81. I was still in high school in fall '79... my freshman year at OU was 80-81 and that was when Blue Oyster Cult, Molly Hatchet, and REO played in the Convo.

I think your memory is spot on, Athena. That show was late winter/early spring and the High Infidelity record was #1 in the nation. BTW -- The guys in the band and some of the crew hung around Athens for a few hours afterward and play basketball (among themselves) over at Grover Center.

Bobcatsquared was right about having three Convo shows during fall 1979. They were headlined by Styx, Kansas and Foreigner. The only other Convo show that academic year featured Waylon Jennings with Buddy Holly's Original Crickets opening up. Also brought to town  by the Pop Concert Committee that academic year were The Bar-Kays with BSCPB, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and Marcel Marceau.

The Marcel Marceau concert sucked.  My seats were way in the back and I couldn't hear a thing.

I'm happy with the choice of Far East Movement as an opener and they should be able to bring in a slightly different crowd than B.o.B.

My concern is the ticket prices. $55 for a floor seat? That seems a little steep for college students. I fear that the floor is going to be empty and everyone will be in the $25-35 bowl seats. 8Fest is the next day and that's $25 plus alcohol. I don't know how willing students and our guests will be to spending upwards of $80 in two days.

It sets up to be an amazing weekend, but with the cost of the two events it seems a lot of students will choose one or the other instead of both. That's probably the university's goal anyway. Have us spend a lot of money on Friday and then be too poor for 8Fest.

Snooki gets $32,000 for speaking to Rutgers Students.  Sounds like a great educational investment for the students.  I am sure they learned a lot of valuable information.

DC and I don't agree very often but I saw that in the paper and about gagged.  Last I heard Rutgers was the state university of NJ.  Pretty much a total waste of tax payer dollars if you ask me.  Of course the spin will be that it was paid with student fees or my favorite, private money.  Regardless, what redeeming social value or educational experience did she bring to the table?  Good call DC.

For Steveland/squared:  put this in the Convo and you'll make some serious money.

I was hoping for Janelle Monae as the opening act, but Far East Movement is decent enough.

LOL, Sting has a son who is nearly old enough to have a college-aged son. Maybe you can catch a ride in an elevator with him, though.

Bruce, on the other hand, is ageless...even without the yoga.

The Grateful Dead at MemAud was sweet.  Steppenwolf could have been better at the Convo but I'll take it.  I had a decibel meter for Marcel Marceau but couldn't get it to work.

Actually my favorite concerts in Athens were those at Art Park....I'm the outdoors kinda guy plus all of my friends were there.
