Signed an LOI today.  Kind of impressive he was able to get back to D-I, considering his season was cut short by jaw surgery.  He has talent, and it seems like he's gotten his head on straighter.  Hope he does well.

I am amazed as well, very few athletes have ever been able to bounce back from jaw surgery! I wonder if he will be a step slow or have the same touch on his shot?

Glad to see you don't let thinking stop you from your attempts to cut people down at any opportunity.  BattleCat, indeed.  I didn't think I needed to spell out it wasn't the injury itself that hurt him but the time he missed, but I'll do the Internet equivalent of speaking slowly for your benefit.

He only played 14 games last season.  Combine that with his suspension and dismissal here, that's two seasons cut short for various reasons.  That's enough to give a coach pause.  When you figure in the fierce competition for JUCOs fighting for a spot at D-I, yeah, I'd say the jaw injury was at least a slight impediment to him getting back on that level.

It is not always what numbers you put up on the floor, but the talent that is evident on that floor. A coach does not need 30 games to evaluate talent. And for the other issues, with over 300 DI institutions in the country there are always those willing to take on that talent. Anyway, the way you wrote your post, you claimed your shock that he could recover from a jaw injury, sorry I was unable to read your mind as to the other problems you "meant" but failed to pen.

I didn't say anything about numbers.  And I didn't say I was shocked, I said it was "kind of impressive," which is hardly expressing shock.  If anything, it was a compliment to his talent that he was able to not only get back to Division I, but sign on with a decent program.  He overcame a setback, that's all I was pointing out.  Yeesh.

Again, hope he does well in California.  He'll certainly be well-traveled by the time he's done.

Would have really liked to see Kinney stay in a green and white uniform. I feel like he would have been the scorer/slasher that we desperately need right now. He had a so much potential and I feel like his loss often comes as an after thought with the loss of coleman, bassett, and kellogg.

We have that scorer/slasher that you think we desperately need and his name is Walter Offutt. Been hearing alot of good things about this kid and I'm proud he will be wearing the Green and White next season.

This reason I said that we desperately needed him was for mostly last season. How many times would it have been nice for a player to step up and being able to score when we need to. Cooper is a much more effective scorer when he doesnt have all of the attention on him (see 2009-2010 with Armon Bassett). I think this season would have gone way different if Jay Kinney was in uniform. But I do agree with Offutt, he will be a game changer.
