Very odd that he would go to Navy. But when you look at it, they don't much care about hoops in Happy Valley and it's hard to recruit there. He was getting his brains beaten in the Big Ten and his salary was at 642k, low for a high major. I wonder what Navy is paying him? I'll bet it's close.

I can't imagine Navy would pay him anywhere close to that, but I dunno.

DeChellis did have Penn State in the NCAA tournament this past year, but he may have sensed that the hangman was going to get him sooner than later at State College. 

Better to have a long term contract in the Patriot to do what you love doing than to expose yourself to being mistreated at a BCS school.  Money isn't everything. 

His biggest problem will be playing with the Rock at Bucknell.

Based on what I have read, Jeff is correct. He is taking a $200K pay cut to leave his alma mater. Penn State would not extend his contract and would not grant his assistants raises. Navy is a 5 years+. The other interesting storyline is that immediately after teh season, he turned down an opportunity with a midwestern mid-major(some say Bradley) that would have paid him close to $1M annually. He seems like a decent man, I hope he does well at Navy.

While there are some disadvantages to coaching at a service academy, there are some advantages.  I'd say there are fewer worries about things like off-court issues, discipline, APR, etc.  The man may be at the point of his life that this appealed to him.  Plus, Annapolis is a wonderful area in which to live...I remember meeting SBH over there to watch TOS' first regular season game at Ohio. 

Navy also has nice facilities. 

You can't consistently be way below .500 at Navy, but there is nowhere near the pressure to win that is found at BCS schools.

Yes, Jeff, Annapolis is a nice town. Some of my earliest memories are from that city, and my first collegiate athletic contest. My father took me to a USNA baseball game when I was about 4 years old.  Ah, the memories!

Trying to do the math here. . . Did the players wear gloves at this game or was this back in the days when baseball players played bare-handed?

In an update to that same rumor that included Boals, they are now also mentioning John Groce.

I wouldn't go there if I were an up and coming young coach. It's like going to Northwestern.
