Just ran across this article from the home page about Jerome.   Can't help but like him and his attitude.  I love hearing about a player who appreciates the history and the culture while playing in Europe.

This quote says it all:

“You hear about the places, and you see them online and stuff,” Tillman said. “But it’s hard to grasp that you’re actually here standing right by them. You’re actually here.”

Agree that the article is an encouraging look at a Bobcat alumnus.

Not sure if anyone else has been following Tillman's Spanish team, Ford Burgos or not, but they went 26-8 in the regular season, good for third overall in LEB Oro.  The regular season champion in LEB Oro, as well as the winner of a playoff of teams 2-9, are promoted to the ACB, which is the premiere league in Spain, and among the top leagues in Europe.

Tillman's club has advanced to the finals of the promotion playoffs, and will play a best-of-5 series against 2nd ranked Blu:sens Monbús, who were just relegated down from the ACB last season, beginning May 27th for the right to move up into the ACB next season.

Since he started playing in Spain in mid-December, Tillman has averaged 27 minutes a game, 13.2 points a game, and 6.3 rebounds a game, and has recorded two double-doubles in 28 games.  I also noticed with some amusement that in Spain, he has shot 14-30 from three point land, for a Freeman-esque 46.7%.

EDIT: They also apparently put full games on YouTube!  Here's the most recent game of 3 days ago, where Burgos clinched their place in the finals.  Not sure if there is live streaming of the finals or not.  Somebody with more Spanish knowledge than me might be able to figure that out!

Last Saturday I actually had the privilege of playing ball with Tillman.  Unfortunately, he wasn't on my team so I had the impossible task of trying to guard him.  He's still a beast.

Some info on how this all came about:  My brother and I get a group of 23 or so guys together every Saturday morning to play open gym style ball for 2 hours.  We've been doing this for around 5 years now.  A few months ago, one of our regulars happened to bring a friend with him.  It was Mike Harris.  The Iona transfer that never got the opportunity to play ball for OU.  Well, Mike has been playing with us occasionally for the last few months now, and apparently Tillman, who just got back from Spain, was in town last weekend staying with Mike.  Mike forgets to mention to us that he's bringing someone ahead of time, so when I see Tillman walk through the doors, I just about pee my gym shorts.

So anyway, I didn't get to talk to him very much, but he did mention that he was there to just work on his outside game, which is lucky for us because he could have just posted my entire team up all at once every possession and scored with ease.  But it was an absolute blast, and he is one of my all-time favorites so it was pretty surreal.
