I'll be the first to admit, I had no idea there was an Eastern Illinois.

Illinois might be the only state where the four cardinal directions are represented by D1 programs.

It's the first annual BOBCAT BATTLE, featuring Eastern Illinois and Alabama State. Want that trophy.

Jimmy G AND Tony Romo. Kind of amazing to have 2 NFL quarterbacks with pretty successful careers come from EIU.

Eastern Illinois is in the small town of Charleston, my birthplace. My Mother is a graduate of EIU, attending classes while pregnant with me in fact. We played them in football in 2014, winning ugly 34-19.

The basketball team has not been good the last few years. They already played OSU & Illinois so they are battle tested if nothing else.

Having always had an interest in geography (and history) I will sometimes seek to find the location and information about communities and other places whose names cross my path by whatever means that may be. I did the same for Charleston here and found it interesting that Rex Morgan, of the NCAA 1970 Tournament Jacksonville Dolphins, was listed under “notable people”. As some may remember many latched onto them in their underdog role during their tournament run. He was a key cog as I remember.

Morgan had a brief NBA stint with the Celtics. His college teammate, Artis Gilmore, had a long ABA/NBA career, primarily with the Colonels, Bulls and Spurs.

Rex Morgan was a hard-nosed guard on that Jacksonville team that had two 7 footers, which was unheard of at the time. Artis Gilmore and Pembrook Burrows III. They lost to UCLA in the title game, the year after Kareem was gone. (Yes, I'm old).

Those are the three I remember along with Vaughn Wedeking and it wasn’t just them being underdogs that was captivating. That period was smack dab in the middle of the John Wooden UCLA dynasty and many, including me, were rooting for anyone to beat them.

I remember well being in front of the TV with a scorebook.

We literally just took Michigan to overtime in Ann Arbor.

Eastern Illinois is 356 out of 358 in the early net rankings.

Delaware State and IUPUI are the only two teams below them.

I'm hoping that the Michigan game becomes something to build on like the Illinois game was in 20-21. It was something people talked about all season and became sort of a measuring stick as to what that team was capable of. What this year's team needs is someone in the lineup who can settle everybody down and take charge of a game. JP was that person in 20-21. Somebody on this team needs to step into that role.

Anyone else think we’re subbing too frequently which is preventing any rhythm?

Someone please explain how our best offensive player...Wilson... has one shot in the first half against arguably the worst team in Division-One hoops and Baker has ten?

Guards and wings a little bit much, but looked to me like an audition for the second half. Bigs got in foul trouble so that had to be managed. Hadaway and Roderick seem to be making things happen when they get touches.

My look was brief, but did I see IJ dressed at least?

And AJ Clayton another no-show in the first half. It's starting to become a tradition unlike any other.

I'll say this 1) It's still early 2) I trust in Boals. That being said

This team isn't very good right now and that first half didn't inspire much confidence.

We are not a good shooting team. Need better looks. More easy buckets (sure would be nice if we had ANY offensive big beyond DW3) and eventually more specific people taking the shots. The more concerning aspect is we're not very good defensively. This team doesn't have the horses on offense to keep letting teams shoot above 50% and scoring 70+.

I believe they started 7 for 8 from 3 which was just silly and caused some unrest, but we blew the doors off them for about the middle 10 minutes of the 2nd half. EIU scored a bunch of junk points in the final minute.

Leading scorer...Ben Roderick? 3 for 5 from 3. Also 3 nice assists.

I was a little wishy washy on the Baker pickup...just not enough accurate outside shooting and assists for my liking in his career. So far my concerns have not been put to rest. Part of me would like to see Miles Brown be more of a goto PG. I think some of us underrate his ball handling and outside shooting. 4 for 4 from 3 today.

I liked the Clayton we saw today, carefully selected shot attempts and a lot more rebounding than usual. Hope to see more of that.

Still basically no EJ4 and didn't get to see much of Brown. Another reason I'm still not sure we should've added Baker, would like to see more time for the freshmen but that's hard to find with all the experience we have at guard.
