Really interested to see how we fare on Wednesday.

Detroit aren't world-beaters. They're an average team from a lower league. But they aren't a cupcake either, and they can score.

Would like to see this team get a W on the road, as these are the types of solid road wins a good team needs to get. We're not a good team yet, but this would be a small step. Plus I don't want to start 1-3 with that team up north looming.

Antoine Davis will finish his college career Top 3 in all-time scoring. It will be really interesting to see what Ohio does with an all-time bucket getter like him.

We are 2pt favorites.

I like scheduling roadies like this. MAC level opponents in their gym. They are coming off a close loss @ Boston College. They have five games between today and Black Friday.

Agreed, any game with a line under 5 is a good thing. I wish it was the norm in OOC basketball games. Would be nice to get the 1st road win of the season on the board before Michigan Sunday.

Agreed about scheduling this type of game. Has the feel of a mid-February MAC road game.

Speaking of the feel of MAC play, feeling really good about the prospects of DW3 and Clayton in the post with Wiznitzer off the bench. Not sure what this even means but it has a MAC feel to it

I've seen zero from Wiz, and very little from Clayton, in 2 games to feel really good about the prospects of our frontcourt moving forward. Then again, I'm not The Optimist.

I will feel better about the front-court once IJ comes back and can give us at least 8 minutes of productive basketball each game in the paint moving forward.

The following timeline of events might be a bit off but I'm going to try and channel my inner Shabamon with my memory:

Ohio hosted Detroit 3 years ago on the Saturday after Thanksgiving with the o$u/UM game keeping the crowd to a minimum. Antoine Davis, UD's star guard and son of the head coach, was recently featured in an Sports Illustrated article covering his scoring abilities that might result in an early entry into the NBA draft. Davis ended the game with 30-plus points but he was never really a factor in the outcome as Ohio won a high-scoring game.

What sticks out to me about this game 3 years later was the torrid start Ohio, Jordan Dartis in particular, got off to in the first 5 minutes of the game. At the first media time-out Ohio led 25-5. If you pro-rate these numbers, the Bobcats would end up with 200 points. Dartis had 18 at this point, which would give him 144 points at a similar pace in 40 minutes.

One of these days I will run into Dartis here in Newark or down in Athens (I looked for him last Saturday in the Convo) and share with him a photo I took of the Convo's scoreboard with these stats.

Very good. This is all correct.

Also Jon Calipari was in the building as his son was on their team and UK had a bit of a gap between games.

Good stories. IIRC, Detroit-Mercy was the site of Jeremy Fears’ first backflip, after he hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer in the old mid-Feb. bracket buster game in 2005.

It seems to me that Clayton is the 4th option at best, and probably the 5th option in the starting lineup. He is definitely behind Hunter, Baker, and Wilson. Miles has shown a lot of poise in the first two games IMO and has the ball in his hands more than Clayton so he is bound to take more shots. That said, Clayton is averaging 7 and 6 while shooting over 50% from 2 and 3. Small sample size, but he seems to be playing within the system and has been active on screens and defense. I am ok with the way he has started the season. Everyone is still finding their roles.

As has been mentioned here before, it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, goes to the bench when AJ Brown makes his debut. Do we want Miles coming off the bench as sort of a calming presence? Do we want Baker off the bench as instant offense?

Back before it was called Detroit Mercy and coached by Dick Vitale, the Titans had top 25 teams with multiple players going on to have decent NBA careers. The list includes John Long, Earl Cureton, Terry Duerod and Terry Tyler. Probably a few more that I can't recall.

Pretty embarrassing.

Did we not learn anything from Belmont first half? Can't have starting five on the bench for 6 minutes when other team goes on a 26-10 run. Really feel like Boals is playing too many players in the first ten minutes of these games.

And Whiz is not ready. Have no idea how Louisville recruited him. Andy Kanzig has more offensive skill. Sorry...but #11 has been brutal.

Need Brown and IJ.

It’s not how you start it’s how you finish. I’d rather they have a game like this now rather than during the MAC regular season.

I hate to be overly critical, but I’m beginning to to wonder the same thing with Whiz. I get 6’11 guys don’t grow on trees; but I’m not seeing how he landed at Louisville.

I have been as critical of BRod as much as anyone. Yet, I can't figure out how he was a starter playing major minutes on a 25-10 team last year and then becomes seemingly the 8th or 8th player for this team we're seeing laying an egg tonight in Detroit.

It is bad enough that we are getting smoked by Deroit Mercy, but what really troubles me is that Detroit Mercy is only expected to finish in the middle of the pack in the Horizon. Please tell me that I am missing something so my normally optimistic self can find something on which to hang my hopes.

I wouldn’t go that far. We still don’t know what AJ Brown does to this team.
