Cleveland State plays good aggressive defense and is getting many easy shots after blown swiches. A win here will require more than we’re seeing so far.
Question is why are we going under screens and switching so often? Bigs are making up for defensive errors on the perimeter

I agree. He seems to be a net positive every time on the floor, going back to last year.

Watching Wiz play basketball is like watching a child try to erect a skyscraper.

I just turned it on in time to see him fumble an uncontested rebound to someone about a foot shorter, then foul him as he goes back up for the shot. An absolute debacle.

If he was 6'5" he would be working the door at Pawpurrs.

He’s an active defender; definitely needs more minutes.

Cleveland State has FOURTEEN OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS.

I can't say I'm all that surprised considering we play three small guards together.

Nice team win. Everyone scored but Sheldon, will take a double-digit W when Dwight only scores 4. Rod didn’t play a whole lot, kind of surprised. Nice to see Adelodun worked in more, he’s scrappy and active on defense. Encouraging to see him knock down a 3 as well. Echo the thoughts on Wiz, hope he comes together more. 7 assists for Hunter and solid shooting games from all three of the small guards.

Ugly last 6 minutes to make us not feel as good as we should.

Positives.....Elmore looking confident.

Oh Canada just so active. He's earned minutes.

DW3 no flow on offensive end.

Baker and Hunter making shots.

Clayton needs to stop taking the first half off and find consistency.

Somebody needs to work with Whiz on his hands.

If Cleveland State made free throws...this is a different game at the end.

Not much more to say.

On to Detroit Mercy.

The only issue I saw was our fouling, too much.
Other wise all was good.
Good game, lots of players played, all good.

You have to be impressed with how well our true freshmen are playing. They play with confidence and clearly have skills. If we can keep these guys (plus Brown when he returns), the future looks very bright.

He was the worst 3-point shooter in the country last year who averaged 25+ minutes per game.

I’ll take it. It’s not like Cleveland State are worldbeaters, but they play a style that makes teams have to work hard and punishes clumsy ballhandling and poor fundamentals. Tons of bad turnovers and a lot of rebounds surrendered but I’d rather have them in a game like this when the team can get away with it. Learn, improve and move on. The team is still coming together and players are still figuring out their roles.

- Wiz had a tough game. Not sure who can spell Wilson if Wiz can’t.
- #5 impressed me…hopefully he finds his way into the rotation
- Baker and Hunter are terrific - thought Miles played well too.
- Elmore looks impressive
- lots of options for Boals. It’s gonna be a fun season.

Shot the ball REALLY well. 12 of 22 from 3 and 17 for 19 from the line. That is great and exciting but makes me think a more average night of shooting and we could've had a bed crapping today.

This is what I was concerned that we couldn't keep up like we did vs. Belmont. We did better.

We were a 10 point favorite. I thought after the first week the oddsmakers were probably seeing this game as a good mid-major program that lost a lot and brought in a lot that they see right now as a middle of the pack team in an MAC that is back to normal strength at home vs. a team that's been the best program in a Horizon that is a lot weaker than it was a decade ago and lost a whole lot themselves. Maybe it was thought of as #170 vs. #315. Nothing they saw today probably made them do much reassessment of that.

IJ and AJ might help a lot.

I thought we played more under control on offense this time around. We shot the ball much better as well so those are two things I like to see after just one game down.

Somebody mentioned needing IJ back, and I agree 100%. At the very least he can be disruptive on defense and rebound. When Wilson goes to the bench, we have an obvious glaring hole in the post. Our options are limited to either bring in a true freshman in Hadaway or Wiz, who is clearly a work in progress. Both of those guys need minutes but in MAC play we will need IJ in there. Unfortunately, Clayton hasn't showed much down low, maybe that will come maybe it won't.

Also thought Baker played well and within the flow of the offense. Last game he gave off some Bean Vibes but not as much in game 2. I think he's possibly our best scoring option and I could see him going off for 25+ a few times this year.

I don't believe I read this anywhere on here, but I just found out Cleveland State's new coaching staff includes former Bobcat Connor Murrell. My daughter, a 2021 Ohio grad in nursing, just informed me that Connor married a nursing school classmate of hers before joining the new CSU staff after grad assistant coaching stops at Ohio and Iowa State.

Also on the staff is Jermaine Henderson, a former player and long-time assistant coach at Miami.

All this reminds me of how coaching staffs at the college level are beginning to resemble those in the NBA where the benches have more coaches than players. Didn't used to be that way. NBA teams seemingly have 5 or 6 coaches sitting next to the reserves with another 5 or 6 coaches sitting behind them in the 2nd row. Must be an abundance or riches.

Murrell was given some recognition on the broadcast as they zoomed in on him during a timeout. Had some nice things to say

Glad to see Jermaine back in Ohio. He has been around. Great career as a player and then coach at Fiami . Spent time under Waters at Cleve St so the territory is not unfamiliar. He has been out at Kansas St for a few years now but I am always happy to see him and say hi.

It is amazing to see the positions created on the sidelines. IU has so many assistants, video guys, player development dudes and wahtever else....P5 schools have special assts and assistant associates and what not. It is humourous to see more guys in polos (used to be suits pre COVID) than there are players on the bench. THe rich get richer and spend accordingly.

There was some solid laughter from my group regarding this. Timeless Convo humor.
