Threeman to England?

Congratulations!

Looks like Tommy's going to get to play with a few of the guys he faced at Ohio (Dobbins EMU, Middleton UB). Best of luck to #24.

The Worcester News says they're close to announcing signings: http://www.worcesternews.co.uk/sport/wolves/9128344.Wolves_are_closing_in_on_making_new_signings/

Gotta love this quote:
“As we missed out on the play-offs last season it would be churlish to go with the same squad this year,” James said.

Churlish indeed.

Just wanna send a congrats out to Tommy on a multitude of accomplishments including graduation and getting the chance to play in England. It was truly a treat to watch him play over the past four years. Even though I wasn't in Athens during his time, I found myself always watching him on the floor any chance I got to catch the Bobcats. I've also appreciated the insight and conversations from the proud papa borna over the past few seasons. You should hold your son in high regard which I know you probably already do. I never got the chance to meet Tommy, but I'm sure he would be a delight to talk to about both basketball and life in general.

I brought my young cousin over to a game at the Convo and told him if he really wanted to be a college ball player, its not all about your skill set, size, or attributes. If you bust ass, have the right attitude, know your role within the team, and play smart, you can play college ball. I told him watch #24. After the game was over he said Tommy quickly became his favorite player, and he only scored 6 or 7 points that day.

American Duo Fly Into Worcester

Following his promise to shake up what he saw as last year’s under-achieving squad, Worcester Wolves Director of Basketball Paul James has now officially confirmed the signing of two new American imports.

Tommy Freeman6 foot 5 inch Tommy Freeman joins the Wolves after graduating from the University of Ohio in Division 1 of the NCAA. The 22 year old shooting guard averaged 11 points a game in his final season at the Ohio Bobcats, whilst making more than a third of his shots from long-range.

James described how Freeman will contribute:

“Tommy‘s stats, and more so his game DVDs, showed me that he is a proven scorer from distance and will be a good addition to our BBL team. He will be a threat that our opponents will have to take seriously. Alongside this he is a very hard-nosed player with a great work ethic who can take the ball to the basket, and set up plays for his team mates.”

Richie GordonMeanwhile fellow US college graduate 6 foot 9 inch Richie Gordon comes into the team at centre to replace the now-departed Justin Dobbins. Gordon played at Western Carolina University where he averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds a game.

James talked about what he sees in Gordon:

“I certainly see Richie as a really good addition to the Wolves. He will be our main man in the middle at the centre position. He can play close to the basket, but has the versatility and athleticism to step outside when he is required to. Like Tommy this will be his first year out of college, and they are both very eager to pit their talents against the best the BBL has to offer."

James gave his thoughts on the re-shaping that is taking place at the Wolves:

“I don’t think I’ve ever been worried about starting over with a team. I really feel that last season’s team did not perform to its potential. On reflection I see the possible reasons why. Now is the time for me to mix things up and try and get a better balance of players who are hungry and want to be a part of the Wolves programme.”

Way to go in getting that degree!  And to top it off you earned yourself a great opportunity to play pro ball in England!  Next timeI hope the press folk in Worcester get the name right -- "University of Ohio." And Congrats to Dad, although, I am speculating that this may make the road trips a might more difficult and a little more expensive.  Borna, you will have to make a few games in the stands and report back to us.  Savor the fish and chips!

As a father of a son, I really appreciated seeing this just now.  Outstanding post Borna, as if I would expect anything less.  Such real, genuine emotion.  I'm thankful that I came in here and stumbled across this after being away from the board for so long.

As for Tommy, I took a liking to the kid the minute he signed on in Athens.  I just always had a good feeling about him, and from very early on in his career, always despised the lack of playing time he was given.  Once he actually started to get some burn, he did nothing but show what I always expected he would.  And this was a sentiment I owned, without having EVER seen him play in person, let alone meeting him.

Tommy Freeman without a doubt is one of my favorite Bobcats of all-time (since I started following the green & white in '96).  And I wish him nothing short of much success in ball (in any and all capacities) and even moreso in life.  Both he and Borna are gentlemen I would trust with instilling the ends and outs of the game, to my son.  However, even with their basketball acumen aside, I also would not mind having men like these around during my boy's upbringing as well.  My hats off to both Tommy and Borna, simply for being the types of people they are.

Cheers to you both!

He actually scored 11.3 points per game whilst making 43.6 percent of his shots from long range. They are short-changing him quite a bit there.
