Why would a MAC school play AT a D2 GLIAC school? What, a road trip to Ashland couldn't be fit into the schedule?

Officially: Charlie's doing a favor to a former assistant and to his son.
Unofficially: Charlie's farewell tour. It's his last year, so he's gonna do what he wants.

Still don't get it! Many on this board are pissed we are playing Marietta at home, imagine we scheduled a road game at Taylor.

Also, there's an assistant coach on the Saginaw staff that knows Charlie pretty well. Name's Coles.
The guy has earned the right to punch his own ticket.

It's Saginaw Valley's "Marquee Game"! Wonder if their fans are saying - "Why the hell did we schedule Miami of OH?? We're gonna get KILLED! :)

I like this. I wish we would see more of this kind of scheduling.

Agree. Just another reason why we love Charlie Coles.

Agree. People love to complain about the big boys not being willing to come to Athens but pitch a fit if we consider going to a small school. The gym was probably rocking.

This is why:

Money quote:
“I’ve had a lot of people tell me, ‘Why would you do that?’ ” Coles said. “I’m doing it because I think some of the things have been unfair in college basketball. I’ve been on that bad end of it a lot of times.”
Charlie has always been pure class.

I was up at SVSU last couple of summers and met the staff, they are all Miami guys including Barry Huckeby who left to go over to rival Northwoods withthe former St Fancis (Ft Wayne) National Championship coach.
Charlies son and his assistants keep close ties on the riecruiting trail with Miami and in unofficial capacities are fairly active with evaluation of recruits.
Met Charlie and his SOn on the street last year in downtown Indy during the NCAA Regional. They stopped and talked to my GF and I for about 15 minutes of really nice small talk. Absolutely wonderful family and total gentlemen.

Any (very) early thought on who Miami might turn to?

One of his assistants. Henderson seemed like a mortal lock but Lickliter's there too now.

Nice gesture by Charlie. He should be applauded for it. The game needs more guys like him.
